Just got the christmas period Visa bill and I need the dough. :(

i will take it falconboy if it hooks straight up to a pentium 4 with a SURFboard cable modem so my sons can be on the internet while i am??

As far as I am aware you can not use the ADSL modem capability with cable internet, however you could network your pc with the 4 port hub and your son can then access wirelessly. The only issue with this is that your pc will still have to be on as it will be the gateway.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Glimmerman,

Ok, I will correct you if you are wrong. You are wrong. :)

This is a router designed to share any broadband connection (ADSL OR Cable) with multiple PCs. As with 99% of routers, Its not specific to any one type of broadband connection. It is not a modem/router combo unit (which is probably what you are thinking as some are these days), it is a router designed to be used with either an ADSL or Cable modem connected to the 'WAN' port.

Thanks for your input, but in future, can you make sure you know what you are talking about before potentially ruining someones sale with incorrect information. :x

Quote direct from online PDF quick setup guide:
If you purchased this router to share your high-speed Internet connection with other
computers, you must have either an Ethernet-based Cable or DSL modem with an
established Internet account from an Internet Service Provider (ISP)

You can have the cable modem plugged up to the router no problems, and share the connection without leaving any computer on.

Thanks Gillsy. I don't know Jack about networking computers or using a router...i just know that with kids and wife using it it is hard to feed my snake and ebay addiction while sons are chatting 24/7 and wife is playing 'net backgammon whenever she gets a chance.

Ha Ha. My misses used to say 'how can you spend so long on that thing', unti SHE discovered ebay. Now we have more womens clothes and exercise videos than you can poke a stick at - and I rarely get to use the PC when she is home! :)

PM sent junglemad!
