Does anyone know of any place that breeds/sells locust or grasshoppers please. Id love to try breeding them for frogs etc, havent heard of anything much outside woodies/crix etc as insect food.
Any contacts anywhere would be appreciated.
thanks in advance. :D

Instar,
Try contacting Taronga zoo and ask them where they got their original locust from before they started to breed their own.

Inny,

Taronga has been breeding their own locusts since about 1990, so it might not be as simple a task as you think. The only people working in reptiles back then (this is pre-Serpentaria) who are still there and might remember are Terry Boylan and Dion Hobcroft.

Then again, I've heard the new guys running the Bughouse really know their stuff, they might know of some outside suppliers anyway.

And if all that fails, try Marshall Black. If memory serves me, it was he who setup Taronga's first locust breeding boxes back in '90.

Instar,

Was at the zoo today, Terry said Geoff (the bughouse guy) would know of suppliers. Apparently there's a guy out at Molong who breeds lots of rats and mice, as well as grasshoppers.
