Super dolphins!!! I love those animals!!!

What a cool story!!

The great white obviously wasn't to hungry then.

Agreat white would not have stood a chance against the dolphins. They would have killed it without getting a scratch on themselves - so to speak. I have heard of dolphins doing this before. Very smart creatures and they are the only living thing you could wish for if you saw a shark whilst swimming. :)

absolutely, a great white is not match for a pod of dolphins, from all i've heard.. that's such a cool story!!

A dolphin on its own can be in some trouble, but a pod will destroy any shark by ramming their gills with their noses. :)

Well that can be your little secret then

For a start in a full blown attack from a white shark it wouldn't have been cruising 2m below the surface, that shark would have just been coming in for a look...probably would have given a nip to see what it was, but the fact the dolphins were would have turned it off.
Just look at white sharks....how do you think they ambush prey and anyone who thinks dolphins will drive away any shark in the area....your dreaming, bronze whalers yes....white sharks...not when they are hunting.

If the great white wanted to eat one of those guys he would be dead. Nothing can stop a great white if they are in for the kill.

No, thats where you are wrong. A pod of dolphins will kill the shark no problems about that. And secondly, a great white will attack form the surface so 2 metres below is not an issue there either. Sharks are not stupid and know that they will be outdone by a pod of dolphins. Dolphins are very quick animals and a great white tires and can only gain speed in small bursts.

Facts from the old book of wives tails.

All of what you said except the dolphins killing just proves what i'm saying anyway.
Plus you obvioulsy don't know what a white shark "attack" involves.

Dude, I am a fisherman and watched endless shark attacks on video and read heaps about them. Anyway, as I said, agree to disagree. I wasn't and won't be the only one on this site to not believe this. :)

yay, if the dolphins actually helped.

I have always wondered wtf is the deal with dolphins, what is the big attraction to them? Why are they peceived as intelligent as a small child? How much of it is true?

I'm sorry to all the dolphin lovers out there :) but the way dolphins are revered has always annoyed me :) . I don't know why, but it it ones of my pet hates- as is cats.

But anyway, I'm being an uptight b!tch and I'll leave the dolphin happy things alone.

Go the dolpins!!

And secondly, a great white will attack form the surface
Great whites attack from the depths. They come up hard and fast under their target and hit with such force as to kill or seriously injure the animal in one big hit. This then allows them to feed at leisure with minimal risk to themselves.

A pod of dolphins will kill the shark no problems about that.
An old wives tail that may have happened once. I do believe they would deter the shark but they certainly won't kill it. Look at it this way, if you and ten of your mates were standing in front of one person with an axe and you were going to stop him from doing whatever, who is going in first??? You, your mate..... Someone is going to get seriously injured either way. Dolphins are not stupid and know if they attack a great white more than one of them could be injured.

Besides that you will quite often encounter sharks and dolphins in the same area.

Firstly, Dolphins and Sharks don't go out of their way to kill each other. But in a situation like this, the dolphins are capable - not saying they will - but capable of killing the shark. Dolphins swim in pods ranging from 5 - 1000. The quickest shark is the Mako shark which can reach speeds of upto 35kmh. A Dolphin is still quicker. They will out smart and out manouveur a shark. They can ram a shark and kill it - obviously taking more than one ram. It is not a common thing, and as people may have thought I meant that it occurs often, the fact is it rarely occurs. What I am saying is they don't go in each others way 99 % of the time. However, a pod of dolphins will put themselves in danger to kill a shark to protect another injured Dolphin or a baby dolphin. In this case, the shark would have had a go at the swimmers if the dolphins were not there. That is a fact, not an old wives tale. Sharks are predators by nature. Now I think this post should be laid to rest. :)

Hugsta, that example with the axe is a very poor example. Sorry. JMO. Also, I suggest you research on Dolphin behaviour. They will risk injury or death to save one of their own....
