Just wondering if these are available or not, and extream weather and all the other things that they  DON'T  teach you before, during or after you get your licence.

Bryony,

I have done a couple of these courses (they offer diffrent levels). They are great fun and very useful. You learn to get your car out of control so you know how it feels and the best way to deal with the situation.

I did the Ian luff advanced driving course at oran park. The first one is ok but the second level skid control corse is great. I learnt to do a 360 degree skid! That has come in very handy. :D

The main problem is the price though. They cost about $200-300 I think so it's not going to be high on most poeples lists of priorities. In my opinion they should be mandatory (and cheap) once you get your p's.

Cheers.

I agree 100% with some of the certified advanced driving courses. I think in reality they should be heavily subsidized if governments want to get serious about our road toll. I to this day can?t understand why they let a driver hit the roads with only 50% of the information & driving skills they need! Certainly I?ll be funding my kids to be put through one of these courses. Don?t get me wrong though, these courses don?t automatically produce a safer driver but at least they?ll be armed with the knowledge to get themselves out of a situation that could have been easily been averted.

Luckily enough for me, It took years of me driving like an idiot to gather the skills I have today   Some people unfortunately haven?t been lucky enough to pull that sort of thing off :(

What i cannot understand is that in nsw and vic (I think That is the law ) You have to do a course to get your learners for a motorcycle I think they should do a simmilar thing for car drivers as well .

Driver Training

I used a company called "DTEC" to do my emergency services driver trining course - awsome setup, all the instructors are exmilitary with a no bull teaching method.

Im sure they'd have similar courses for civilians. . .worth a try. I know they have centers in most states and a few O/S.
