Hi everyone,

Just thought I would warn everyone that someone is sending out a virus to members of this forum and claiming to be from this forum using the email address "[email protected]".

The problem is that it sent it to my real email address which is hidden on this forum only admins could know it, so either the server has been compromised or an admin from this site is somehow involved (I hope not).

So be aware.

Hi all,

I am apart of admin, I am also battling a virus called coolsearch, get yourself some spyware, its not one of us admin, and the virus may not have came from this site how ever if you have been affected dont sign on untill I you have fixed it, we dont know the nature of this....to the other admin I want be comming back until it is fixed...hopefully soon....if you need to contact me email me at [email protected] or my Mobile phone

yep over the last 2 days i have been reciving virus mail in relation to this site
please if person is found can you post there full name and adress as i have a good way of stoping them typing!!

The latest viruses fake the From addresses. These addresses are harvested from many sources, including the Internet and infected machines.

I get about 20 - 30 a day at my home address and about 50 - 70 a day at my work address. Not a lot you can do about it. It does NOT necessarily mean that a member of this site is infected and is the source of the viruses, although that's certainly a possibility. The more you access the Internet and post your email address on the net, the more likely it is that your address is going to be in the From field.

The more you use email, the more likely it is that your email address will be used as the sender ID (From) and also the more likely that you will receive these emails with virus infected attachments.

dont have my email listed any where but here and on the main sever and i have a dummy email to log into other sites
but i know what your talking about, on our sales@rockaway we get 40+ per day.
(i wish i was tough enough to hide behind a computer!! (Damn pussies)
what ever happened to bombing or torching a place that takes guts and skill, any one can send a virus

David's right. You may notice that in the future, you will receive infected emails from other people's email addresses who you know. This is because it uses your address book (in Outlook Express) and people you have sent to/received from to fake the sender's details.

There is no problem that is caused by simply receiving the email (apart from the fact it's bloody annoying) BUT make sure you DO NOT open the file attachment. Delete the message straight away.

Plus you can take the whole family along for a BBQ before the celebrations.

if im not sure i view it by right click properties then go to message surce

...I think I'm reasonably safe? I've got firewalls everywhere!! I'd like to line up the Virus guys & the Spam guys in front of a firing squad! I don't get much in the way of viruses (can't remember the last one off hand!) but spam....try close to 148 messages a day! Where do those damn things come from! I can't recall ever checking out Viagra!

Everything's ok with me, my anti-virus never even allowed it into my inbox, just thought I'd let everyone know that they should be careful.

I never meant to say that an admin was purposely sending out viruses, the "i hope not" in brackets was just me saying exactly that, that I hoped that this would not be the case, I just thought that an admin might have had a list of members email addresses on their PC for mass mailing or something and the virus found us that way.

But that's it, keep an update virus scanner and firewall software running and you should be fine.

Oh dear moosenoose, I really don't know if there are words for your "Cat" comments.

As for those special and sometimes embassing pop-up's that appear at really inconvenient times, my Dad thought that someone was having a go at him specifically about the size of his manhood with all these computer generated tips on how to make it longer, stronger and perform tricks.

As for the computer glitches, I am being hounded with the netsky one at the moment but luckily Nortons picks it up and i just delete it without opening the attachment. I really started getting worried at one stage because messages were arriving telling me how great that naked photo of this and that was

yeah i had the sober worm too. i got emails from numerous sites that i visit, including this one - not just names in my contacts list. i must say norton didnt pick it up! there is a fix for it and since using it i dont get those annoying emails anymore.

if your getting a virus and you can't get rid of it, try www.trend.com, its a online scan that is free and it picks up all trojans that other virus programs don't always detect.

sober.f is just a upgrade to sober.e it is harmless and norton offers a fix. just remember if u get a virus and u are trying to get rid of it, do so when your not connected to the internet, even if it means opening in safe mode. there is no point in deleting it if you are still connected to the internet.

hope that helps you all

jcaustralia,

Welcome and good on ya for getting the Aussie sense of humour and good fun!

Thank-you very much for the tip soulweaver and I will give the link a try and see how I go. It is just more annoying than anything when they pop up and thank god for Nortons!
