Hi All

Just wondering if you can help me find where to start looking

My Coffee table enclosure has an electrical fault and it keeps tripping the circuit boards... Very annoying waking up to no power this morning

The Coffee table Enclosure i Brought Of a fellow APS member Over 3yrs ago.. this morning decided to trip the circuit breakers.. I have disconnected every thing and started to plug all cables in one by one and have pin-pointed it the the fluro Ballasters(Fluro tube holders).. it will trip straight away. i tried with brand new globes and starters... and with no globes and starters and its still tripping..

Any advice?

most likely thing to fail with trips would be the ballast, if it isnt a wiring issue that is, and the tombstones which hold the fluro tubes rarely cause trips, but they do get brittle and fail. best advice is get a licenced electrician

+1 for electrician it definitely sounds like wiring somewhere, try asking around to see if anyone knows a sparky who can help you 'cheaper than joe blogs' you could be surprised who knows who in the world

i had a similar issue with some party lights awhile back(not saying its the same thing, but its close) anyway, my mates dad is a tiler and runs his own buisness,so he has to get his power tools check and tagged every year, when the eleco came tohis house i took my lights down to him to test them, turns out it was just the power supply cord, so we took a old cord from a computer and replaced the cord, it works all well and good now:D itd be worth a try:)

Is there a buzzing noise by any chance ? when its on ? (Before it trips)

Would be the ballast or tombstones, just replace the fitting , quicker and cheaper, go T5 fittings this time.

Is it tripping the breaker or the rcd? I doubt it's the tombstone holders. Most likely the ballast or a loose wire.

Yeah ill go the loose wire 1 Minute and it's fixed. A mate of mine bought a Dodgy light off eBay was worth 500-600 got it home was fine next day started buzzing. I came over and was what's with the buzzing pulled it apart and a there was a loose fitting making a spark jump from the terminal to the reflector foil. Tightened the screw bam Bargain.

`Hi, I'm a refrigeration mechanic and we often have units trip out due to a faulty ballast. Go to bunnings and get a new unit or even better call a sparky to have a look, he may be able to change just the ballast.
