Quick question, when people say to keep your enclosure at say 31degrees (ish) , are you referring to air temperature or bottom of the tank temperature? The thermostat that I purchased said to put the sensor on the bottom of the tank, but I'm noticing that it doesn't keep the tank very warm at all. Would it be worth putting the sensor higher so that its actually sensing air temperature?

What kind of heat are you using ? If it's ground heat (mats/cords) then you need to put the probe on the ground, because they will have little affect on the ambient temps.

If it is ceiling heat (lights/CHE's, etc.) then you're best putting the probe perhaps somewhere in the middle on the wall, but have a play with the positioning and decide what works best for you temps-wise.

I'm using a heat mat. I just moved the probe so that its sitting just above the substrate at the bottom of the enclosure. My main reason for asking was that both snakes were eating well until I got a thermostat, Now they wont eat :p

The reason it probably isnt eating is that its coming into winter and they slowing there metabolism down. Correct me if im wrong.

isn't* (I'm only new to reptiles, so I can only correct grammar :)... even then I'm still somewhat uneducated )

haha thanks and so am i, ive only had my woma for about 4 months now but you do learn a lot along the way.

About a year old (both of them). And they havnt shed since I got them. I was thinking they might be about due.

Coming into shed is one possible cause for not eating but it seems a bit strange that both aren't eating so possibly not because of shedding and possibly more to do with the new set up. Are you using a thermometer to measure the temperature or just going off the thermostat reading? Usually at a year old if the heat is kept up they will feed through winter. Are they in separate enclosures?

Same enclosure, approx 600x450x400(mm) with plenty of hides and such (they can get away from eachother with ease if they want to). I'm just going on what the thermostat says. Would it be worth getting a thermometer also? they seem to be moving around more now that I moved the probe to the top of the substrate instead of under the substrate. I might try and feed them again in a day or two (they get fed in a tub outside the enclosure)

Most of the time the reading on the thermostat is slightly wrong and I would get a thermometer. Also I would not keep two snakes together, they get no benefit from it and can cause problems. Make sure you do not feed them together as well.

Theyre always fed separately. I was under the impression that two childrens were fine to keep together? (well, thats what I was told anyways)

The snakes get no benefit out of sharing an enclosure but could possibly harm each other. Your choice as to what the chances of it happening are, they could quite possibly live fine together but vets are expensive.
