Hi everyone, this question has probably been asked before but i have not been able to find relevent info in the search tool on the site.

My bearded dragon over the last week has become increasingly erratic, it constantly runs up and down the edge of the glass trying to climb the walls etc, then sits at the cool end of the enclosure for a few minutes before starting the process all over again. I was just wondering if there may be a reason for this. There is nothing in the room to stimulate him, though there is another beardy a room and a half away, could it possibly be able to smell the other beardie?

any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated
cheers, Darren

I'm pretty sure its a male, however if it is a female it is living on a sandy substrate, and they'de have to be infertile. what can i do to aid laying if it needs to?

My 2yr old bearded dragon was doing exact same thing. His beard went black so I put it down to hormonal and wanting out to look for a female. Except one problem, he died just a couple days ago. My daughter said good morning to him then 10mins later he was dead. I took him straight to the vet for autopsy done - vet couldn't find anything wrong. No infectious problems, no blockages or anything. One person suggested to me that he could have died from a heart attack which isn't unheard of in mature male beardies. We bought him recently so moving him at this time of year added to the already stress time of the breeding season. Its all we can think of. He wasn't sick, no injuries, eating well, temps and all were where they should have been and my daughter was nursing him just the day before, he showed no signs of ill heatlh.....sudden unexplained death.

sorry to hear about your beardie mysnakesau, hope that doesn't happen to mine

there was a thread exactly like this a week or two ago, may have been snakesau's one.
very sorry to hear you loss btw.

totally normal.....males needing a mate or females being gravid ......all part of dragon behaviour

best of luck....dont see it as a problem but a added benefit!

My beardy, just five minutes ago when I went to see him, decided to puff out his beard and body, and go all black as soon as he saw me. Nice way to greet me for the day. Then he started parading around his tank like he owned it.

He's not getting a mate as I don't want to breed him, so looks like this is the reaction he's going to give me for a while.

Just keep an eye on him that he does not stress too much. Our beardy did that. If he tries to climb the walls or looks unsettled you may have to try covering him over so he can't see out. don't know if that will make a difference or not
