My carpet python (about 3/4 of a metre long) escaped last night by pushing the weighted bowl i had covering an access hole in the lid and squeezing out of it. My bedroom door was open giving it access to the house. I've searched under the fridge,l deep freezers etc, but to no avail.

Any traps, enticing mechanisms or places i should look/use?

Would love to get her back tonight.

I was thinking of setting up the heat light in the middle of the house along with a mouse, water, hide hole etc. and placing a film of flour all over to see where she goes. But this doesn't help me catch her.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your snake mate, if u have a look on here there are a fair few threads about lost snakes, best advice flour and a heat source and a hide and hopefully you find it, good luck

Prob not far away

Recently i had my 9 month old Coastal escaping from the enclosuret explanation AWAL several times, withou.Still think he is Houdidni,-But I hope this helps,.Firstly, i didnt take anything out of the room, (i had done this once before, and it was hiding in a suitcase,).This snake made it all the way to the Gecko tank in the l;oungeroom.
The other times, i have always found the snake in my room.Once ontop of the wardrobe near his tank, another time he was behind the wardrobe. The only time i couldnt find him within a day or two, i just set up a branch from a ytree outside, left it very close to his tank, and pointed a light at it.-And thyen waited.Sure as, around 1am, i heard the russling of leaves, and he was climbing on when i turned the light on.
Of all myn escapees, ive found they dont go far, due to the warm room they are alredy in, and now when the little male gets out(They are in my bedroom),he usually just hangs around the tank somewhere.
Lastly, if he is hungry, you can get a mouse/feed and place it in a plastic bottle, in a dark corner in the room.If all goes accordingly, the snake will enter the bottle, eat the mouse, and be to big to get out of the bottle, but you can cut the pl;astic and get him out.Good Luck.

Yer one of my diamonds was an escape artist, got out twice..luckily shes lazy and was curled up ontop of the enclosure lol.

Umm....is it possible to fix the enclosures so that they CAN'T get out?

Shell, that common sense is going to get you nowhere in this world.. ;)

I had the same problem a few months back..I just put a mouse in a container on the floor and sat at my comp in the room checking the mouse every few mins...he rocked up 9hrs later :) To try and make a trap, get a take-away food container and make a hole a bit smaller than the thickness of the mouse, and put the mouse in. that way if the snake goes in and eats the mouse it hopefully won't be able to get out. good luck.

Check all round your room 1st. Usually they don't tend to go too far once out. They'll come across somewhere comfortable and settle in. Remember a snake that small will hide in places you wouldn't consider looking. Start near the enclosure and search EVERYTHING working your way away from the enclosure. Check bags, all your drawers, shoes, between your sheets at the end of the bed, all those little places he's likely to come across while moving away from the enclosure in any direction. I've found mine in a box full of DVD's he managed to get into next to the enclosure he still.

The other ideas with flour etc, you've already thought of are good if you don't find him by night.

Done

Not having small reps in this enclosure before,I couldnt see how he was getting out.I thought i was either going crazy, or that he was channelling Houdini. It had me stumped.
With a lot a perseverance and alot of pushing, a gap where the light ballice was installed, had come loose over the years ,a gause cover was hiding the hole.
By the time id found it,rather than wedge some wood into it, i just covered the hole.It would really ******* the enclosure to have to renovate when im can just wait a few weeks- months and he will be too big.ive just got my temps and stuff right, and i didnt want to fiddle. He has not escxaped since.
So Yes i did fill the cover the hole when i found outn where it was. Thanks for your concern..

brain

when a kingsnake of mine escaped i brained a f/t rat severely then put it in a hessian sack.i placed the sack in a warm dark spot nearest to where he escaped from.i brained a fresh rat every night and on my 3rd attempt,i heard him scuttling out from under the skirting boards.when i turned the light on there he was covered in fluff, cobwebs, etc heading for the sack oblivious to all the panic he'd caused.i wish you luck in finding your snake.
cheers shaun
