I saw a couple of item on the TV about reptile busts in Melbourne yesterday but cannot find any reference to them in the on line media.

The two I saw on the box were on channel 7 last night and Sky News this morning.

They described a "series of raids". The one suburb I recall being mentioned was Noble Park. The TV footage appeared to be from a pet shop with rows of fish tanks in the back ground.

They showed a bunch of corn snakes, a large and rather nice looking Boa, red eared sliders and a Snapping Turtle that was obviously long over due to have its nails clipped. All of the animals were of a reasonable size and mostly adults.

I got a laugh out of what they said a corn snake would sell for.

Does any body know more about this bust and want to share?

Has anybody came across any links to news on this bust?

I found one after reading Moose's post:

I remember some years ago when trader and I were supervising a canoe trip of school students on a lake called "Lake of the Woods" in central Canada watching one of these guys swim under the canoe. They can get HUGE! The one that swam under us was about 1 meter long.

How much did they say the Corn's could sell for?.. I was offered a Corn Snake (hatchling) for $300 a few months ago... funnily enough from a pet shop also.

illegal and a rip off. I wouldnt pay $50 even if they were legal.

I am not 100% sure but I think the quote was something like "up to $1000". After picking my jaw off floor I remember thinking that they were pretty boring looking corn snake morphs.

At least if you were going to get busted with something you'd want to go out in a little more style than having a cornsnake in your possession! lol A couple of Egyptian Spitting Cobras would be the go methinks

I still reckon that snapping Turtle would be great for opening up Macadamias, getting the nut out of its mouth would be another issue however

I saw one thing on the news about the bust and they where saying a corn snake would sell for about $700 <<< the media hyping up the news again and showing their lack of knowledge of animals.

Nothing was found at the Preston shop as I understand it, so coment may be retracked by the media.

Did they have any snow corns? I need some double hets to go with my axanthic? ones........;-):D

re Exotic

I like the amelanistic ones hugs, yep stuff this hypo cqarpet crap these fellas make them look sick,i suppose they have the benefit of years of line breeding. That little glossy leaflet they sent out during the amnesty whatso in NSW has what looked like a lovely amelanitic on it,very sweet,i made up my mind at that time that it would look good in cage above tv. :p Sorry guys just being honest

Why apologise ? They are a great looking animal. I must admit these hypo carpets don't do it for me, they just look a bit washed out without being really strikingly marked.

Thats because youve probaly never seen any good ones, some are pretty ordinary others are hot.

No I have seen some good ones but they are just one of those snakes that don't do it for me. I have no doubt there are some out there that might change my mind. Got any photo's ?
