i was just wondering i have a coastal carpet python and i want to ask whats the best way to feed them, i normally do it in the enclosure, but it has back fired lol. he wont even let me in the enclosure, so what other ways is there to feed snakes should i take him out of the enclosure.

im sure someone would have some info on this. whats the easier way at feeding time. in the enclosure or somewhere else.

I've always fed my coastal in her enclosure,, she doesn't get handled a huge amount, so i guess i just got a laid back girl, only got tagged twice, when its not feed time and i think it was cos she was sleeping and i scared her

lots feed outside the enclosure, even read one guy who puts his in the bath to feed it, (empty of course LOL)

try it, it might settle him down a bit,

I use a tub, that's probably easiest so then you can pop the lid on and don't have to make sure he doesn't escape... You could try it on a table or outside if you wanted. I reckon feed them outside of their enclosure though because i guess they might get more protective of their enclosure if they are fed in there and not gotten out much.

Hi - the trick is consistency. I mostly feed mine in their cages to reduce time. I feed at the same time, same approach, and they rarely confuse feeding time with handling time.
If you only have the one to feed, however, I would suggest using a starmaid tub or similiar, with holds in it, and feeding your python in this. This way, he will never be confused and will quickly become used to the routine.
Do beware, however, of removing him from his tub when he has finished eating to put him back in his cage. If he is still focused on food, this is when he may leap out of his tub like a demented jack in the box in anticipation of more food!
Good luck
Vicki

How old is you coastal?

I'm think of setting up the enclosure with a seperate door to feed him with so one door means food the other handling and cleaning. Any do this? & does it work?

he is around 3yrs and 5mths old...

im going to put him into a quieter room this weekend less movement. he is really jumpy. i am going to attempt to hold him before the move..might be my first bite coming up...lol.

Doesnt work and its a waist of time!
Snakes respond to the smell of thier food item not you opening the door:rolleyes:

Some snakes are naturally toey and will remain that way through out thier lives!
