Hi guys I may be getting my 1st bluey tomorrow (Eastern variety)
Was at my local pet shop buying mice and they had some baby's for sale I restrained myself as I wanted to know what I was in for I've found what appears to be a great husbandry guide http://nswfmpa.org/Husbandry Manuals/Published Manuals/Reptilia/Blue Tongue Lizard (Johnson).pdf

But still have a few questions, I would likely house him in the same room as my carpets and was just wondering if that would freak him out ( would he know there around? smell etc?) and how worried I should be about quarantine with a baby bts around my carpets.

Quarantine is a must, no matter what the species of reptile (12 months would be good). Pet shops don't have the best reputation for hygiene (not saying there all bad). If the blue tongue can see your pythons it may stress him. I've noticed lizards I've kept in the past have avoided the end of the enclosure that's in view of my snakes. I haven't noticed them stress over the scent alone.

No worries how far apart would you recommend is safe like would the next room over still have a possibility for spreading disease? I sort of missed the boat with my dajarra carpet she is on opposite side of room (large room) to my jungles but I've always used F10 with my equipment and cleaned my self thoroughly after handling. Anyway cheers for reply

A different room would be preferred, on the opposite side of the house if possible. The further apart you can keep them, the lesser of a chance there is of spreading disease.

Cheers I'll try an find a location as far as possible in another room.

Acquire a bluey from a breeder.

Blue tongue breeders can found on this forum, any of the for sale sites, or use google to find other blue tongue dedicated websites.

Pet shops are for people who buy on the spur of he moment.

I've been giving it a lot of thought all day and not because it's from a pet store I know the guy that works there who bred them and he's not a spotty teenager trying to get some commission I've had a few chats with him before and he seems pretty genuine. That said its because there's only so much room for me to put animals in quarantine and as I was also going to grab a breeding pair of pythons aswell as coupled with the fact that I'll be moving in 2-3 months, I've decided against getting a bluey for now. Thanks for all the input guys.
