Hi all,

This coming season I am wanting to attempt breeding my childrens and diamond pythons. (Not cross breeding)

I have never bred snakes before and am currently researching but there a lot of different ideas getting around.

All my snakes are housed seperate and i have stopped feeding them. They are under heat lights from 7am til 3pm every day and left to a normal night time temperature.

Is this right so far and where do i go from here?

What I think you might have to ask yourself is

"Why do I want to breed?"

And...

"Does the world really need another clutch of diamonds and another clutch of childrens".

Are there any stand out traits about these particular animals that actually makes them worthwhile candidates for breeding (apart from being beloved pets) or are they bog standard animals.
Have you got the facilities, patience and food to keep both clutches of hatchlings for up to a year until you manage to find buyers for them? And NO I'm not kidding about the year bit either!
Hatchlings seem to be very hard to shift at the moment..ask any other breeder who still has a number of last seasons youngsters.

Buy the book "keeping and breeding Australian pythons" by mike swan its a must have for anyone that keeps pythons or is wanting the breed snakes
