Last year I put up a post of our trip to the Flora River. It disapeared. I dont know how or why.

I was just looking at the pics again so thought I might post a few shots again. Even though it's a National Park the tourists dont seem to know about it.

Where the Flora River meets the Katherine River it becomes the Daly River. While the Katherine almost dries up in the Dry the Flora pumps all year. There are springs pouring into it all along it's length. It is very deep, crystal clear and only very small boats can access it. Huge salties and silver barra down deep. We had it to ourselves this trip.

The beautiful limestone tufa dams give the opportunity for a safeish dip. The only way to launch a boat was to lower it down the very steep bank with snatch straps and winch extenders joined together. That's why we were the only boat.

Glad you ressurected it Steve; kinda like Lawn Hill near Mt Isa (except the possible Salties).

Well I know where my next trip will be.

Yea, limestone country, harsh as until you hit the River valley with massive Monsoon forests. And the salties are very much actual, some of the biggest I've seen.

Make sure you've got a small boat you can lower down ( and 15hp is the max allowed.)

Looking good Steve, did you end up making it to 'no name' creek?

Weekend after this one. GRAND FINAL WEEKEND! All my fave teams are out so I hope they all lose ha ha!

Watch this space for the Grand Final alternative!

Is this good country for those "golden" salties (more a bright yellow)? We had a few of these stunners at a croc farm I worked at once and I believe they come from really clear water and yellow sandy bottom.

Epic, love all your posts mate, even though they make me so jealous...:p

Was that in a hilux to?

1 x hilux, 1 x jeep. Our usual combo. Really it's an easy drive in (50km of sometimes graded track), there are toilets and showers (Parks camp site) but very few people visit this park (especially when it heats up- that's when we go, the fish are ON.) I guess if you dont have a small tinny and the nouse to get it in and out of the water there's not a lot to do.

They all looked gunmetal grey to me. Being limestone country the water is clear but no sandy bottom, more sludgey.

The palest crocs I've seen have been on the Finnis and Adelaide Rivers, two of the muddiest rivers up here. Out at Cobourg Peninsula the crocs have teeth so white they glow in moonlight. They spend 90% of their time in the ocean and dont get tanin stained teeth from the paperbarks like most crocs do.

Ha ha cobber, I'm living my dream. I reckon you only get one shot so make it a good one! Happily my missus has the same view.

good stuff mate I know a lot of couples don't see eye to eye on the whole 'roughin it' side of things lol

I hope to one day end this dreary monotonous hobby called 'work' and embark on an epic long term adventure. I don't think I would come back either seeing some of those places...

Keep up the travels, the pics are much appreciated.

Sorry cobber ......work never ends......SO get to work on getting a job and lifestyle YOU want. Fair dinkum, if you dont ask you wont get.

I'm just echoing the advice my father gave me. (And he didn't see dentistry as my futue :)) No offense dentists (mumbles you mongrels)

And having a partner who likes to do what you do is insurpassable.
