Hey guys
I'm writing a very long report and I need to insert cross-references to sections in the report. Usually I add a word ("blah") and come back at the end and insert all of my cross-references but I was wondering if there is a way to do it as I go but ensure that the cross-references stay connected to the section that I meant.
As an example, say my text reads "This will be described in more detail in section 6.3" and later on I decide to add a paragraph above section 6.3 so my sentence should now refer to section 6.4 instead. I've tried using fields but they don't seem to update in this way. I assume this is because section 6.3 still exists even even though it doesn't refer to what I know it should any more.
I hope that makes sense. Any help would be much appreciated.

Saximus, what version of word are you using and are you talking Numbered headings auto updating or Paragraph sections?

It's 2007 and yeah numbered headings. It's not a super important thing because, like I said, I can just do it at the end but it would be nice to know why it doesn't work the way I'm assuming it's supposed to.

Slim, that's how my report is organised; each progressively lower level heading increments but I can't reference a particular heading/section and have it keep the connection (if that makes sense)

It does make sense... If it was excel it'd be easy :)

What options are available when you cross-reference a bookmark?

There must be one there... I'll have a look at Word here and ask a teacher. Teachers know everything :)

Haha cheers man. I'm quite certain I'm using the right options. I'm cross-referencing the heading number so yeah I dunno
