Hi all I have recently noticed something happening to my Frilled dragons frill.

It started as A single scale turning black but now it seems to be spreading across A larger area I will post pic when I get home but just from the description can anyone think of what it might be before I ring Deception Bay vet clinic. Thanks Hayden

I have no experience with frilled dragons. Keep this in mind people.

When my female beardie developed mouth cancer the scales on her beard (That sounds weird:?) began turining black. The vet said this was a sign of the tissue under the scales dying. I'm not usre this will be the case for yours but keep it in mind when taking to the vet.
The scale pigments might just be changing for whatever reason or getting darker and black as they absorb more heat?

As I said I have no experience with Frilled Dragons so please don't throw a hissy fit on my input >.<

Have not kept them so I'm most likely wrong but I have read something somewhere about their frills darkening as they mature so that's what I would think is happening to yours.

Na it is only in certain areas of the frill that seems to also look damaged

I would agree with sharkky. I had a friend whos beardie do exactly the same thing. Poor guy didn't survive though. But a reptile vet would know as I too have no experience with Frillies so don't take my word for it.

Hope the guys alright and it's nothing major!
Best of luck

Hmm as I don't know much about frillies, I can't make any judgement from the pics. When you say they appear damaged, do they feel different to the regular scales?
Do they look unhealthy, dry or what kind of damaged?

Yep, that's dying tissue alrught. I hated watching it happen to my dragon :'( A herp vet will be able to identify why the tissue is dying and prescribe meds for him. Best of luck! (He looks gorgeous!-besides the dying tissue)

Yeah get him to a vet, my girl didn't make it  Get him to the vet before it develops into something worse.

+1^^^ get him to the vet. Hopefully he comes through better than sharkky and my friends beardies did. Sorry to hear Sharkky.

Yeah it was sad, just 2 days before my birthday as well. This has been the first year with out her. Beardie her hubby misses her every day :(

Hopefully yours will pull through kr0nick!!!

Since none here are experienced with frill necks just wait a bit without jumping the gun too early and see if someone with experience replies

Well he may be going black due to age or as steve said, possibly changing due to breeding season however if the scales look damaged and unhealthy then it doesn't take an expert to work out that the animal needs some help.
Sorry specks if I sound like I'm being rude, I don't mean it in any way. I'm just stating that kr0nic said the scales look damaged so this is clearly a sign of something wrong.
Apologies again if offended you or sounded rude.

Sounds pretty normal to me if its a NT frilly. Ive got some photos but won't be able to post them until tomorrow when I get home.

No banna just saying it should be left to people with frilly experience

Hey what if the frilli dies before someone replies!!! Besides that if you take to a vet you know it's in good hands.

Na Stevo he is A Kimberly Frillie so vet it is I will make an appointment tomorrow.

@ Specks

Yeh mate that is what I was thinking alot of I am not experience with ... but I will comment anyway thanks

Sorry I meant you should take it to a vet, if you thought something else, because even if its completely normal at least you know.

Yeh I know Reptiles I know get where you are coming from. I am planning on going to the vet

Kimberley, NT - essentially the same coloration, different size....

Sorry I can't re-post my old forum photos from tapatalk/iPad to put your mind at ease. In the meanwhile you could do a search of my previous threads involving "chopper" and find the pics yourself :)
