Hi folks, we have a friend here who has a GTF that has always been a tad sickly. She says that the frogs skin keeps turning brown. She has put a green backing on its tank now, and the skin is green, but instead of being shiny, the skin feels like sandpaper?? Does anyone know what might cause this please?? He hardly moves around at all. Won't hunt for food. She has to use tweezers and hold the crix or whatever in front of the froggies nose. I advised her to take it to the local vet and see what they can find out about her little pet. It is in a tank on it's own, and not near her other GTFs. Cheers Cheryl

Some more Details needed Chezza. Changing skin color is in itself normal, this varies with mood, temp, humidity etc. shouldnt be totally brown though, atleast not in general. Skin texture should be smooth though. A few possibilities come to mind.
(a) abrasion ~ Are there tank furnitings that might be abrasive? Sometimes artificial plants (silk) type have a drying affect on frogs skin, plastic is generally ok.
(b) Dehydration ~ again humidity/temp balance is important. Can the frog/s access water easily.
(c) chemical toxidity) ~ has tank/glass been cleaned with anythiong other than plain water?
has the water source been treated, to remove chlorine? tested for levels of copper etc?
(d) Stress ~ its enviroment should be quiet , not high traffic, does it have a dark hiding place during the day?
(e) Diet~ what is it eating?
Without assessing these thingsfirst its impossible to say, blister disease, comes to mind, (bumps all over skin) Is it bloated? Thighs off color or reddish?
You gave her/him best advice I think, Vet!
Cheers Inny

P.S If anyone could have an idea, it would be Alex M, this young fella knows frogs like Jack Daniels knows Bourbon. Cant hurt to ask him.
