:?Hiya everyone,
This is my 1st ever post i hope i dont bore anyone ..... i just have a question for anyne that keeps frogs .... I;m going to get myself some green tree frogs and the like. I'm just wondering from anyone that might know i understand that they dont need much in the way of heating .... the VIv i'm setting up at the moment is 2/3's land with real plants and 1/3rd water (heated by a water heater all filtered water) i have a 3D fake rock background i;m in the process of making for the tank .with a waterfall and waterwall and fogger ... I live in the snowy mountians and it gets REAL cold down here come winter so i think they will need some kind of heating apart from the water can anyone please advise me as to what strength i'd need ..... many thanks :)

You do need to keep them warm, suggest a heater in the water and then that also creates humidity that they like, temperature about 26 degrees.. i think

In the cooler months keep them 26 with water temperature and they can usually live with a normal air temperature at around 19. For heating if your concerned then you can buy a heat pad and thermostat and place it on the side where the land area is at around 22 and that should give them somewhere to keep warm without going in the water, mine just sit in the water in the winter and make it dirty by doing their 1s and 2s and such lol. hope that helps your question

GTF will live happily in temps of 10 deg and above, though they won't be active in temps under around 17 - 18 degrees. In Sydney they live outdoors happily year round and naturally occur here and in many places that get alot colder, though in the Snowy mountains it would be better to have some heating to stop the water freezing in your enclosure , GTFs need no standing water at all and will do fine in a mildly humid enclosure, I have no standig water in my outdoor avairies and they just get some rain every now and then.

Thanks for the ideas guy's :)
at lest i knw now what kind of temps i'm aiming towards

I kept GTF`s in a similar set up to what you descrbed and i used
flat radiant heat panels that have one sticky side and actually stick
to the bottom on the outside of your tank and they worked great.

They give a nice even heat.

Then you dont have an ugly lead running in through the top of your enclosure.

I also used them instead of a traditional tube style heater in the water
because they can injure your frogs if they touch the hot glass of the heater...;)

my frogs have slept in half out of the water and on the heater some time sand they have been fine so I guess sometimes its on the quality of the brands

Yeah my heaters glass dosnt get hot enough to burn my frogs. My enclosure is similar with the fake rock wall. Leaving just the water heater is ok in my opinion because it would be just like the seasons. But if you really want to i would put one of the heat mats and stick it to the glass behind the rock wall.

No, you stick it under the water area so it heats the water to create condensation
and raise humidity in the air. Stuck to the side would have little to no effect as the heat would rise up the side of the enclosure.
