Q:

Does tail regeneration have a negative effect on matings in geckos?
Any difference in this between male or female?
I assumed it would have a substantial impact as the tail is used so much during matings.

Your thoughts

Aaron.

I myself don't have any geckos with regenerated tails but i have friends who do. This does not seem to hinder or affect them in any way. Why do you assume it would?

They usually regenerate to a very similar size and shape to the original tail. The only thing i can suggest is obviously a gravid or breeding female may have trouble as breeding and regenerating a tail is very taxing on their bodies.

Well during mating both male and female use their tales for maneuvering and pinning. as well as general cosmetic luring. My question more relates to before the tail has resumed a fuller shape and size.
