Hi
I was wondering if any long term keepers GTF, have had animal suffering from cataracts.
i have 1 starting to develope it. its very happy otherwise
just wondering if anyone else has experienced it with GTF.
thanks Xylo:|

I used to keep GTF's for many years, inc one that I had for 17 years, never had that problem ever. Do you keep yours under UV?? if so, what output / type of light?

Thanks JasonL
I ve had these guys for abt 17 18yrs now and they were pretty mature when i got them.

I have them under 2x 2ft reptiglow 2.0. and there are hiding places in the dark but they do seem to like to sit in the bright. what globes do you recomed

Xylo

I never used UV lights on my frogs. If they are that old though, I'd expect it's about time they would have a problem of some sort, I wouldn't be too concerned, old age........

I have seen frogs that look like they have cataracts, but only in one eye and it has been caused by injury (ie. the eyeball being damaged by a stick etc)

How do you know they are cataracts? You sure it's not just a corneal opacification?

Thanks Meshe1969
There hasnt been any eye injurys in the time ive had them, the odd mouse has bitten back but nothing major and not on the eye but a possibility.

Thanks Jungle Python2 what is the difference between Cataracts and Corneal Opacification and is there a cause or cure, Im very currious as i have had these guys a long time and wondering what to look out for
as they age. Wanna break the old age record for GTF half way there.
thanks Xylo

One is affecting the cornea and one the internal lens, there are plenty of causes such metabolic as well as as trauma, amongst other things. As for cures it sounds permanent and i highly doubt they would perform surgery to rectify the problem in a frog. As long as it has one good eye I wouldn't worry too much.
