I'm not going to hold my breath on this one...but so far so good!
This afternoon I came home to my kids telling me that one of our three Green Tree Frogs wasn't looking the best. He was the runt of the litter so to speak and has been a little reluctant to eat over the last few days.
Well, this afternoon he was seriously knocking on deaths door! Legs had stretched right out straight behind him/her and were remaining there (as I've seen countless of frogs do when they are in their final moments) and I thought it was such a shame as this one had come so far. When the frog was rolled on its back it remained motionless - another bad sign! As a tadpole this one had a chronic curvature of the spine and was very reluctant to emerge from the water - to a point where I was certain it was going to drown. The frog in question is now about 2 months old and 1/4 the size of its siblings (which never seems like a good sign IMO). It quickly because quite alert and was feeding for some time by itself without reason for concern. It's only been in the last week were I've noticed a lack of interest in food and it also appeared very inactive.
Anyway, to cut this gigantic essay short  I think I've steadied it!! I held the little critter in my warm hands cupped for 15 minutes and soaked it while it was in there. After 15 minutes of this it seemed to look better - rather odd I thought. I then gently massaged the back of the frog (which might also seem a little strange) but felt that if there was bloating or a blockage of some sort it might just help to free it up??? The next move was a case of "do or die" in my opinion as this frog was not eating at all and decided if it was good for stubborn snakes, it'd be good enough for frogs - yep, I force fed him a moth which it has now completely swallowed. I've also removed the frog from the other 2 and upped the heating in a secluded tank. 3 1/2hrs later and the little one is looking a zillion times better!
I'll post some pics tomorrow if this one survives (I'm really hoping he/ she is about tomorrow morning when I get up!!)
Sorry for the seemingly drab and long story.....but I'm really quite stoked with how this little frog is looking right now and wanted to post my lunatic remedy I hope it doesn't make me look like a goose tomorrow.....but even if it does it was worth a try!
