We get notices sent out to us here on Groote when scaly, water based dinosaurs are passing by and while some folks may moan and groan that they cant take their dogs down to or fish off the beach, to me its nice actually having the privilege of sharing this area with these creatures. Just means I need to take the dogs bush instead..

*Note, the pic is not one of them...*

Good Morning

We have just received notice regarding two crocodile sightings.

Please forward/post this message below for general information.

3-04-2013 12-01-43 PM.jpg

Two (2) crocodiles have been sighted in the area of Alyangula Beach, one (1) is approximately 2 metres in length and the other one (1) is larger (length not verified).

Both have been sighted in front beach area from the rock wall through to the end of golf course, fairway three (3), Alyangula

All residents should use caution in this area and refer to the Parks & Wildlife Commission NT website for further information about being Crockwise:

Be CROCWISE - Parks and Wildlife Commission NT

Be CROCWISE
When it comes to crocodiles, the Northern Territory Government takes your safety seriously, but ultimately how you behave around crocodile habitats is your responsibility. It must be assumed that any body of water in the Top End may contain large and potentially dangerous crocodiles.

Contact details removed

Guess I will have to also try get photos of these guys..

That's cool. To me, being sent a left regarding recent croc sightings seems somewhat surreal. Haha. My dad was fishing up there last year for barra and the banks were lined with crocs. One monster in particular. Weren't even allowed to rinse their hands in the water!

If you catch them can you turn them Anti Crocwise ??

interesting post though . Must be a dad thing when my father was the pres of Mission Beach Surf Club the had a 5ft er in the stinger enclosure one day , no one knew what to do with it so the Tully Police came and took it to the lock up until someone from JC U came and collected it

I just always assume they're there. Wether I can see one or not. It's the one you don't see that is the most dangerous.

Like the box jellies , at xmas my mother kept saying that there were NONE around and we could go for a swim !!! ????
Even when we were in the stinger nets and the waves started breaking over the front we got out and she said it was ok
No thanks

When I lived at Yorkeys Knob 2 people went swimming with a floating log inside a stinger net at the beach next door. It was a saltie but luckily it decided to leave. I was sitting in the crystal clear shallows at Cobourg Peninsular one time and 2 little box jellies drifted under the arch of my leg. Cute, tiny little things. I watched them drift off. Never heard of Irikunji. By my reckoning there are 23 different things that can kill you in the sea here (that's just close to shore). I still take (calculated) risks but I follow my instincts and the advice of senior Countrymen closely

If i was going to that beach I would definately take the dog. Better him than me. Just kidding I would stay away for sure.

Was told today that one of our local attractions has gone. A seafood restaurant here feeds a 6foot grouper each afternoon at about 5pm. Well they did but the main male saltie decided that he'd make his own seafood restaurant.
