What are the best type of fittings to use inside an enclosure with the MR16 Halogen 50W flood bulbs GU10 240V?

(The local lightening/electrical shop is closed till Monday I'd just like to get an idea on what I should be looking at)

If anyone has any experience with these, do you use a dimmer with them?

Anyone use these?

I just wanna here some feedback, its for a lacey setup.

Unless the lacey is a baby you'll need something more powerful. The GU fitting needs a particular socket -usually for down lights recessed into ceilings, however some desk lamps use the same fittings. I suggest you go to your local Bunnings and have a look. The ones I use are canabalised from desk lamps that were being sold off for $5 each. I've ripped the fitting out.

It is for a baby/juvi lacey, enclosure size 1200x1200x600mm. I'll be using two 50W halogen floods & 100W ceramic heat emitter for night heat. No bunnings round here Bob.

These are the fittings I use. They're great coz you can swivel and angle them to differrent spots.

They look good snake_freak. What do you use them on?

I use them in almost all my tanks now. But are the best for the small monitors because they easily produce a 60 deg C basking spot (using the double fittings for accies, gilleni and skinks). I have the single fittings on dimmers in the snake tanks, which are good because at night they give off just enough of a dim glow to see what the snakes are up to.

I'll be heading to the shops tomorrow to find one of those doubles. Thanks for the info & pics!

Forgot to mention the price for fittings is good as well. $16 for the singles and $36 for the doubles at bunnings.

Thats cheap! Are they by any chance pre-wired.....?

& roughly what distance do you have the basking platform from the bulbs?

No not wired but they have a wire connector in the back so it's easier than wiring a plug. I have the double about 60cm from ground level and then just kept adding Retes stacks underneath and watched the goannas behaviour. Basking spot ended up about 25cm away and is around 65 deg C.

Hey Snake freak, can and do you run these thru dimmers

Yea, I have some running on dimming stats and they work well. Plus the bulbs seem to last longer on a dimming stat vs. a switching stat, only had to change one bulb in the last 2 years.
