Hi all, i was just wanting to know if it is alright to handle your python just after it has shed ??? thanks

everyone will probably have different veiws about this mate, i personly do and mine are fine. i usually feed them after a shed cause they are always hungry after they shed

plenty of people on here will tell you no and tell you off. I think it's not too bad as long as you are gentle and for a short time. With me it's usually because they pooped as well and I want to clean their enclosure.

Cool cool, about feeding her, her last feed was last week on the dot, so should i give her something now ??

agree with patothego with been gentle dont dont handle for aslong as you normaly would and yea they will poo and its always best to take it out asoon as you see it so realisticly you will handle your lil bhp anyway, i usually take mine out replace the paper check out how good they look then put them back and give them a feed.

i feed mine weekly, they use energy to shed so it will be hungry but its ur choice to feed now or not

cool, that sounds good, thanks for your help, i just wasnt sure so i thought i would ask.

:) no worrys i know what its like when you first start out it can be very confusing and you always take caution before doing something if you ever have any questions feel free to pm me ill help out where i can, how old if your bhp?

I handle mine just the same after a shed I've never been told not to and it's never done any harm. What's the reason for not handling?

im not sure about reasons for not handling steve1, my girl is 10 months old, she's really good and gentle. I just went to have a look at her and the last 10 to 15 cm on her tail is left still to shed but the rest has come off, will she get this of alright or does she need help ? sorry for all the questions, she was in her water bowl before

all a much of a muchness i say..
i always clean my tanks straight after a shed as the usually poo too..

ive never had a problem, i have a genuine 10 foot carpet pythons shedding as we speak..
i think he will survive if i touch him...they do in the wild

give it 2 minutes or their colors smudge... they'll be fine!
i never even thought of that, not that i ever catch her shedding till many hours after usually in the morning after good to kno man
the old learn something new every day proves true again :)

Some of mine will accept food when about to shed some dont I usualy like to check mine after a shed see it all come off properly I think its ok to hadle after a shed

she's hiding in her hide now, her tail peice still hasnt come off, will this happen on its own ???

Either soak the snake in warm water (basking temp) or put in a damp pillow case under basking spot for 1/2 an hour you might find it comes of on its own, if not using the pillow case or cloth over your fingers gently rub down the length of the tail or let the snake pull its tail through your fingers if it's still stuborn it may require longer soaking. It does have to come off.

as steve1 said i used to use a warm washer and let my old spotted just cruse through my hands while i held it wraped in the washer if there was still some shed to go when the washer go's cold i jus reheated it n repeated give it another few days n see if it ges it off on its own as you dont wanna accidently tear its skin by being to rough geting it off yourself if you dont have to attempt it

mist it, hose it down, soak it,...ur choice, but make sure the tail shed comes off,....

+1 about the tail shed.

Re: handling. I always find mine are a bit twitchy after they've shed, but it's still fine to handle them.
