Hey all,

So I recently got 2 Adult jungles they look superb but I have an issue - neither of them have ever been handled, well at least in the last 2 years of their lives..

They really hate me or anyone who disturbes them for that fact and are more than willing to coil and just strike at your multiple times (into the mesh or glass what ever)..
One even dislocated their jaw being stupid - my heart stopped, then remembered oh wait that happens and he popped it back in....

anywho, when they are like this i just leave them alone and come back later, they never get better though... It's very difficult to move them as they weigh a few kilos each and don't like going on the flimsy snake hook I have ...

1. Anyone know where I can get a very sturdy hook?
2. Is there anyway to make these guys less agressive? I know they are aggressive by nature, but I have the distinct feeling that they will try to take my head off if I ever held them.

I don't want to handle these guys really, That's what I have Diamonds for but it would be nice to be able to move them etc, I've seen them attack their food and being bitten by it doesn't seem a nice thing :)

i have a 3 year old jungle who has a bad attitude when shes in her enclosure, but a pussy cat once she gets out. iit was suggested to me that with her weight bending a golf club would be a good hook. and have also heard of people using extendable paint rollers.

Some jungles are just like this. I have a few that are similar. Some will calm down others wont. They way i look at it is do you have to handle your pythons? The only time i handle most of mine is for cleaning.
One way you can move them for cleaning is to have a hide box with something you can cover the entry with while they are in the box. But there are some good quality hooks out there if the biting doesn't worry you.

That's exactly what he answered in the last paragraph.

Veen you can get some strong looking hooks from Herp Shop. I don't own the ones they specifically have but I have seen them before and they definitely look sturdy.
Like Jason said, you might want to get a hide that you can just remove them in if you're really scared of getting bitten. Those bird boxes are probably good for you because they have a panel you can slide out if you ever need to actually remove the snake. For the most part though it is pretty much just a sealed box.
If you're willing to take a couple of whacks, you can probably acclimate them to your presence. I'm sure all the "professionals" will say different but I think most snakes can be calmed with enough time and patience. It will definitely make things easier for you. If you PM me I can tell you my method. It's pretty simple but has worked for me every time so far

Have a look at the hooks on the Proherp website, with the golf club style hadle. I got one for use with my 6ft (4kg last time I weighed him) BHP and that seems to be pretty solid

yeah the pro herp ones are great, as for geting it reacquainted with handling just be confident dont handle to close behind the head and put up with the occasional bite... make sure hes not hungry when u handle him and handle him when hes active dont wake them up to handle them
im most likely wrong but thats my 2c

I have a paint roller (minus the roller) on an extendible handle.

The hook i have extends and it bends and i feel like im about to drop them sometimes, unless i get them layered on it etc...

Being bitten by these guys isn't ideal, but what evs if it happens it happens...

I don't need to handle these guys, and as im now cooling them at night time and they live together, I don't really need to disturb them at all for 3 months (or little less) until heat goes up again and and feeding starts, then i need to take one out of the tank each week to feed separately etc... which as its a front facing glass tank makes somewhat more difficult than out of a large click clack! then after feeding put them back in together !

Then only other handling will be if they <3 each other and i get eggs... somehow I think i will be losing fingers before she would let me near her eggs! :D

It's cool, I'll work on a better hook as a priority and go from there, they are lovely animals but don't take too kindly to my kind ! but I have diamonds for my love n affection :D

Toss the metal stuff in the garbage
You have to get the snake to trust you
Big metal thingys dont inspire trust

Put a tea towel or pillowcase over your hand and simply pick one up
Dont let it touch bare skin at first
It will very quickly associate the bag with handling
Within 4 weeks it will be handleable by kids

Diamonds are ok
But nice jungles were always the backbone of my demos in Aus
Wonderful gentle snakes

i made my snake hook out of a small paint roller and a old golf club i just cut the head of the golf club and jammed the paint roller in with liquid nails then i crimped the end of it with a vice. easy as and easily supports my big bredli

Cheers, I'll pm you soon, I'm from the gong so close by :)
Also, I think they may of mated last night, but not sure, I only have this mornings position, what does everyone think? I thought they wait until after winter? I've only cooled them at nights for 3 days!!

Is this bad for them? should i move them out until after winter cooling? then put them together..

I don't want them having 'fun' and then lose interest when she ovulates...
