Hi all,

I am currently studying a Law degree at Southern Cross University and just wanted to see if anybody could give me some advice.

For the moment, I am hand writing all of the notes I take from our Study Guide (I study externally therefore do not attend lectures, our information if provided in workbook type formats).

I wanted to know if it would be best for me to stick to handwriting my information out, or typing up my notes on my laptop?

I am worried that in any potential open book exams they may not allow me to use my laptop, however I don't see them turning away typed notes that have been printed.
I do think though that getting used to hand writing for lengthy periods may help in future law exams, as I've heard you are required to write extensively.

I have received no advice from the lecturers and wanted to know if anybody has any USEFUL advice :) negative comments and sarcasm are not wanted.

Depends on how you study best. I find that hand writing notes makes the information stick in your head ;)
Or you might fin that typing notes makes it easier for you to understand and read (my partner can't even read his own writing).
Just depends on what your uni will allow too :)

Mmm I think I might have to get onto the course advisor about it.. I dont want to handwrite my notes for 5 years then find out I could have been typing all along haha.
thanks :)

Hey mate I study law at a different uni but I would definitely advise typing your notes. At our uni we have mostly open-book exams, but you aren't allowed to use laptops or any other electronic devices capable of sending messages so it's notes or books only pretty much. It's much easier to format your notes when you sit down and type them out, and you can change the format of your notes etc if you want. If you type them out you're basically stuck with what you've written, plus they take much longer to write than type. Also, if you write them out then you have no backup, whereas if you type them and you lose them then you just reprint them.
Definitely type! Once you get to the end of semester and realise how long and detailed your notes are, you'll realise that you can't afford to lose them!
