hatchling bit himself, was oozing white stuff. help please?

i recently bought a darwin hatchling and he has been quite stressed from shipping and is also ready to shed soon. he lashes out at anything that moves (to be expected, obviously). while trying to take some photos of him today he moved and struck his back. twice. i noticed that the puncture sites were oozing a white fluid that had a consistancy similar to pus/mucous. is this a normal thing, or should i start to worry?
