gday,

i got one of my hatchies that has come out of its egg, probably a bit premature or hoaxed out by the other one crawling over the egg.

problem is it was stuck to the egg via its umbilical cord. i cut the egg and it is now laying there attached to the yolk sack still.

i have left it on moist paper towell still in the incubator, im assuming it may dry up and fall off. any advice from the experienced breeders would be helpfull.

Hey mate,

I had a few this year with part of the cord or sack still attached and it dried up a little after a few days, but remained, so i cut it off as close the the body as i could and it totally disappeared with the first shed.

thanks gsxr. i have considered getting some string and tie it off and give it the snip. but if it is still absorbing the yolk im thinking i should let it be for a day, the other hatchling was only 4g (childreni) so any help they can get is probably needed (this one looks a little bigger luckily).

most of the time they will continue to absorb the yolk while on damp paper towel in the incubator so jsut leave it be and if it isnt absorbed within a day then you can cut it

tie it off with some string or something and cut it, or just cut it?

No no no! If you still have the egg just push the hatchling back inside, it will re-emerge when it is ready! Otherwise like has been said damp paper towel.

no egg shell left gordo, i'll be leaving it on the moist paper for another 24 hours and see what happens.

If it is still absorbing the yolk i'd leave it. I just pressumed that it had dried. My little ones weren't absorbing, they were drying out, so i cut it. There were also some other ones that had about half an inch of the dried out cord stuck and they couldn't lie flat so i cut them as well.
