So I got a new Childrens Python on Saturday and it ventured around a little bit. But now i haven't seen him in 2 days, i had a quick look in the bag which he came in (i opened the bag and then just left him to his own devices when i got him home as to not stress him too much) and he is back in there and was also alert at my presence.

I cant tell if he's shedding or not as he wasn't when i got him, so i put a moist paper towel under the bag just now anyways? is this the most likely scenario for his hiding? I cant tell much without disturbing him too much...

Thanks for any guidance! =)

When you put a new snake in there new home will always explore a bit make sure Its safe It will come out when ready If not just gently remove him from the bag and as long as theres water ther It will sniff it out dont worry about the moist paper towel

so to take him from bag? or not to take him? lol, ive only got 2 hides in there.. and im getting some fake greenery to put in this weekend.. i dont wanna freak him out eh..

It isn't going to hurt him if you take him out. When I brought my first python home I put the bag in her enclosure and sat there for two hours, watching paint dry, waiting for her to come out. But no she wouldn't, so I took her out and then she spent the next few hours exploring before settling into a tight hide behind some fake plants.

How old is your childreni? enclosure size, heating? more details = better answers

Im not sure exactly how old it is, but its a yearling. They are going to post me the history apparently. enclosure is approx 80cm x 50cm x 50cm, with a heatmat at one end, and i put a 100w globe on the roof, but i might go down to 75w? and my thermostat was faulty so its getting repaired atm..... temperature is such a mission without a decent thermostat, so ive just left the heat mat on all the time till its back, leaving one end at about 23-24 degrees and the other is somewhere around 30-34,35 (these are on the floor temps) and the snake is in its bag at the cold end.

I would pull him out of the bag and as long as he has places to hide he will be fine. Sometimes all things need is a gentle push. Especially if hes stuck down the cold end. They aren't that delicate that you cant take it out of the bag. I would have a hide over the heat matt so it can get heat and hide at the same time if it wishes. I know my Stimson's does not like overhead heat very much and prefers belly heat. If i turn on the 50w globe he will move away pretty much immediately. Then just leave him be. I fed mine the day after I got him, after being told he would be too stressed to eat and he ate fine. :)
