bit of a no brainer really isn't it ?? of course it will be causing damage... cover it up so it cant see anything, but still has ventilation, make sure it has the correct temps, make sure it has water and somewhere to hide and leave it alone for at least 7 days, if he's only just got it of course it gonna be upset, especially if it is a wild caught as i beleive that is legal in WA, (if i'm misinformed i will gladly accept correction)

You didn't mention how old it is.....

like any animal it could definately cause itself damage, concussion, haemorrhage etc. as the person above said cover the tank up and dont tease the snake. Leave it for at least a week to settle into its new environment then go out and get one of those snake hooks so that you are able to get it out of the tank and handle it as much as possible for short periods of time. Hatchlings and yearlings tend to be more snappy then older snakes, how long ago was it last fed?

^ Like they suggested leave it for at least a week, and make sure it's feeding correctly before attempting to handle it. To get it use to handling you can trying doing what people on these forums suggested to me, which was put it in a pillow case and have it up against your body for a couple of minutes. Do this every couple days and it should start to calm down. It could also be cage defensive.
