Heat mats and Heat cords...

I don't really use heat mats or heat cords...
But I'd like to know do you use them to create an ambient temp or just to create a warm spot for the animal to sit on?

both it depends on how they are situated in the enclosure and the substrate in the enclosure.

Does anyone just heat a tile to say 32 deg and not worry about the ambient temps?

I use chords and mats for all my pythons. I use a ceramic tile on top of the chord in my larger enclosures to create a hot spot. Ambient temps dont really concern me as I am in Queensland and if anything its usually too hot rather than too cold. The way I see it is being cold blooded if you provide them with a hot spot they will figure the rest out. I could be wrong with this statement but I am yet to have a problem using this method.

yeah thats what my hatchies get i am the same as jones with ambient temp always being to high for so i give them a hot spot and let them work the rest out.
