hey guys having heat problems my enclosure it is glass case with mesh on top, 4 vents down bottom size is 900hx600wx600d lighting is infrared heat glow 150watt red lamp with a 150watt reptile one reflector running on a vivarium 600watt dimming thermostat getting 28.6 at the bottom and 30.6 at the top is this normal + has anyone had a dimming thermost because when mine lights up about half the power it is flickering some times

whats the issue with the heat ? u havnt explained what your keeping in it . sd for the light flickering are u sure its not the globe ?

am i ment to only have a 2 degree gap and its not the globe have been running it for a hour now and no flickering with out thermostat think its faulty

a 150watt is way too much , thats why its heating the whole enclosure . also the placement of the thermostat probe can have a no gradiant afect aswell .have u got any pics of the enclosure?

we cant give you any real advice unless you tell us what your keeping in the tank.

What are you keeping in there unless its a lacey or similiar your going to cook it with a 150 watt bulb

jungle python yearling, got the set-up as a set
still no need for a 150wt heat source , if your thermostat fails u will cook your snake .
i would change it to a lower wattage and put some branches in up near the heat source at diffrent heights [ make sure any globe has a wire cage around it] .

Just need to get some branches, where do you suggest to put the sensor for the thermostat
And what wattage globe do you suggest
Thanks Ash

glass tanks do not work for snakes....as you are discovering it is too hard to regulate the temperature.....what you save in using the tank rather than making/buying a melamine enclosure you will spend in heating bill

How does this Jungle access the hottest part of the enclosure? Its stuck on the bottom, you need a branch that gets close to the top and get rid of the glass and go for a melamine enclosure, my guess is this enclosure is way to big aswell!!

Don't use glass? I use the exact same enclosure for my yearling jungle python and I've never had a problem.

Whether or not to use glass I think largely comes down to your location. I'm in Newcastle, and I'm glad I don't have a melamine enclosure. I have a melamine enclosure for my Stimpson python, and the temperatures it has been getting to are ridiculous (especially considering I only run a heat mat and small wattage CFL).

True in Melbourne your heating bill may go up and offset the savings from getting a glass enclosure. But it's the inverse here. I'd rather have issues heating the enclosure properly than getting it to cool. In regards to heating the enclosure, I haven't had any problems with achieving a temp gradient.

It sure is annoying having run two air conditioners over the last few weeks to keep my reptile enclosures and the rest of the house cool :\

It is fine to use glass as long as your willing to pay more electricity. I used to have a 3 ft glass dalbarb and a 3ft melamine dalbarb enclosures...and in winter i had to use a 100watt globe in the glass one and a 40watt globe in the melamine one. (big difference in wattage hay??)
