For my spotted python i use an infrared light the runs 24/7. Do i need to put a heat mat in it ? I have the change lighting to infrared. I live in Townsville.

id use the infrared light during the day only on a timer so that it goes off at night and just have the heat pad on overnight

u should think of the heat lamp as the sun, goes down at night up in the morning as in the wild ,and just leave heat pad or cord on overnight for some warrmf

I would ditch the lamp and use a heatmat and thermostat to take care of the heating (much cheaper to run) Just have a small flouro to light his enclosure (or a normal white energy saver bolb that fits your light socket) on a timer;)

As above, best way to go and cheap to run.

No need for much heat if your living in the tropics where the snake occurs, unless its in an air-conditioned room. A heat mat under a hide area will suffice
