howdy all, just wondering, ima buy one of those crystal thermo sticky strip thermometers, just wondering how i measure the temp, im using a heatcord and i thought about it and im not sure

If you have a bunnings nearby they have cheap thermometers for $12..they have a probe to measure a separate part of the enclosure....for the large enclosures I mount the thermometer at the cool end on the wall..then I run the probe under the substrate (in my case carpet) up and into the hide.

This way the probe will measure the hide temp and the thermometer will measure the cool end temp.

For click clacks I put a hole at the back of the click click in the middle at the bottom and place the probe into the hide. I leave the thermometer outside the click clack and this measures the air temp.

Bear in mind that any cheap thermometer could be out by about 2-3%...the best way is to also buy a gun thermometer and take a reading of the snake itself every day or so intially until you are comfortable that your setup is o.k...again the cheap ones can be out by 2% or so....the best one I have heard of is a Digitech (at $150) from Herp shop (this is the cheapest I have seen as they are $170 plus elsewhere)...I only have a cheap gun at the moment but will be buying a Digitech one as soon as I have some spare cash.

The stick on ones are not that accurate for measuring air temperature and are better for sticking on the sides of aquariums.

Another question. Will a heat cord be sufficent for a click clack, and how would i go setting it us, we dont have anywhere to buy cheap melamine, would i just sorta curve it around and bunch it up to heat it and put a bit on one side and the back? if you get what i mean
