i'm thinking about attempting to build a cage for when my diamond gets a bit older and would like to make it maybe 4 foot high (not really sure about other dimensions yet). how do u go about heating a cage so tall? do u put the globes etc at the top and have that as your warm area and the bottom as the cool area?
oh and if you find a really good branch for your enclosure do u have to put it in a bag with a pest strip or something? if so which is a good one to use?
how do i put a piccy here btw?

I have 3 cages that are 4' high but only 2' wide and deep. I have the heat at the top with the idea being that the top is warm and the bottom cool. It works well. If your cage is going to be say 4'x2'x4', you'll need a warm end and cool end really. This would entail putting some down spots or a ceramic with a reflector on the ceiling of the cage at one end. I don't pest strip my branches but some people like to do this sort of thing. Just make sure you air them well before you expose the snake to them.

To post an image, you need to right click on an image that is currently on a web site somewhere. Click on properties and a window will pop up. Where it says Adress (URL) highlight the adress, right click and tell it to copy. Then, when you are posting a reply here, click the button that says Img, right click and tell it to paste then click the Img again. :D

Just testing...

The ones down the bottom are my 2x2x4's

Magpie, (or anyone who knows the answer)
What if the picture is not on a web site. I have XP and when I right click, there is no option to copy. So I go to properties but don't really know where to go from there.
Cheers
PS I have a Pic of an Albino Darwin Carpet

If it's not on a web site, post it to your gallery. I think when you post an image, you really just post a sort of link to the image, it's not actually stored on the forum page so it needs to be already on the net.

Nice work!!, did you build them yourself?

Yeah did you build them yourself? They look good nice and compact. I gave up trying to do swinging doors, could never get them right so now i go the good old sliders.

so if the cage is 4'x2'x4' and you put the globes say at the right side wouldn't that mean that most of the bottom and left hand side would be cold? and that's not too much?
um...i don't really know what a reflector globe is...

oh and how do u prevent your basking spots getting too hot directly under them where the snake/lizard sits? especially if they're being used to heat the enclosure also...

lemme try the pic thing...if it works this is my baby pretending to be a gtp

Enclosure for my diamond is 1200mm H. The top is the 'hot end' and the bottom is at ambient temperature, there is a hide cave at each end, one up high, and one down low, and plenty of branches in between.
I use a 150w ceramic heater in the top which gets temps up fairly well (although my diamond is cooling at the mo.). The thermostat prob is towards the top probably about a quarter of the way down the length.
There is a pic. in my gallery if you are interested, but there are more branches now than when I took those...

Thanks, but nah... I'm not nearly that clever MM. Custom jobs... I'm pretty happy with them. :)

Mine also were made for me by a cabinetmaker. I really prefer the hinged doors to sliders, that is the main reason I got them made rather than making my own.
