Help! Beardy breeding

so i purchased these yellow phased beardies in early september and then found out they are both females so i am looking to get a male and put him across the two. they both are in the same enclosure and 1 is a bit deformed(born that way) she handles herself well and now its starting to get colder outside and both seem to be lying in the same spot for hours. i have researched lots and lots about brumation and breeding and just looking for expert advice. is this brumation and do i keep their feeding/heat routines the same? when they stop ive read that they are able to breed so thats what i want to do, just looking for a few answers. do they have to brumate to breed or can they breed anyway? how long will they lie like this? i will post pics soon

Should you really be breeding a deformed animal? Even if she does handle herself well, how can you be sure that her offspring will not be affected?

No they are both kept together an 1 is not deformed and that's the one im breeding

depending on the age whether they will brumate.Juveniles will not brumate the first winter,but will ever after and should do so if you want to breed.
So the answer is yes they must brumate if you expect them to breed.

You said you want to get a male to put across the two (aka, two females)? Get it straight please. Don't breed deformed animals. If you want to breed the other female then you need to separate the two.

Like they say, probably not the best idea to breed from deformed stock. As far as brumation goes, at this time of year they will go to sleep for the next few months. No food and switch off all the lights. This is actually really important as the animals will produce better sperm and viable eggs if they are allowed to brumate. Kinda scary first time around to see them go off their food and just sleep all day but this is perfectly natural

sorry if i didnt make it clear but im not breeding the deformed female and they are 4 years old. i might separate the deformed female if there is no food and light. by light i assume you mean heat light and not uv. thank you too everyone

to brumate you must cut off all heat and light inc.UV and let them sleep

I have a female dragon and was offered a boy. I dont want babies so i knocked back the offer. But i dont brumate any of my reptiles. Or is anything possible and it could still happen?

I would not guarentee that nothing would happen but the general consensus is they should brumate to keep up their health as part of their natural cycle to breed,so yes anything is possible

So you say your females are 4 years old... I hope the one you're trying to breed has laid eggs before now? (Just taking into account the increased risk of problems that could arise when getting an older dragon gravid for the first time)

You need to separate the two females when you put the male in there other wise the male might breed with the deformed one also. Have you put much thought into this?

i have thought about it alot and done hours of research and when i put the male in i do have separate and empty enclosures, click clacks, bulbs, heat mats that i ca use. the owner said they bred before and he said theyre around 3-4. one female is very healthy so i will be turning off the light on sunday. do i need to stuff theyre bellies with food first?

she is asleep in dark. should i keep it a bit warm eg heat mat not a light. 3 months of sleep am i right. just wanting to be 100% sure

Lol um no....if you dont want them to breed then dont keep them together. We made that mistake with a young male and female we were trying to feed through winter one year and she ended up having 3 clutches, two viable.

umm no dont turn all of your lights off.... thats just silly, you need to mimic winter with shorter light cycles around 12 hours and drop your day temps and reduce your night temps. mine have gone to sleep this year at different times and during this time i do see from time to time, they come out and might have a cricket or two here and there and sometimes get a little warmth and nibble on the salad and then snooze for a few more days and so on. i offer fresh salad the whole winter period and have a few crickets bob about the tank. (not alot and not enough to eat my animals while they sleep).

My female bearded dragon is now pregnant and is due in 2 weeks or so. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and im looking forward to babies.
