hi im a newbe to this and am currently in the prosses of setting up my old 6ft scorpion tank into one for a snake

i have had an idea for sanding back an old tree branch smooth and varnishing it the same colour as my stand

will this be ok for the snake to climb on as its just the same as the varnished lid and tank ??

thanks a lot for you time and any help would be great

A glass tank isnt really suitable for a snake. You could convert the tank stand into an enclosure for a snake and the branch should be fine just let it air out b4 puttin the snake in

IMO glass tanks are fine to use. i am using one now for a murray darling and have used them before for a pair of spotteds. just keep the heat to them and they work fine.

log idea sounds great

why are there people telling me i cant have a varnished log for him to crawl on??

is there anything else i should look out for

Hello
When I bought my murray darling the snake lady told me that because he was captive bred he didnt have the imune system of a wild snake. She said if I found a nice log and wanted to put it in Alphie's tank I should bleach it and leave it in the sun to completely dry and continue to do this for a couple of weeks to make sure that all the critters and bugs that will live in the wood die and dont end up having negative affects on Alphie.

So its fine but as long as you clean it properly and I dont know about the vanish...

yeah thats what i thought and there is no way the snake will get any bugs from the log since its sealed hard with the varnish
