i am really worried about my adult male carpet python. he is currently in an enclosure which has water climbing area and heat. when he sticks his tongue out its unusualy slower and on the under side of his belly parts of his scales are covered in blood. this is only some areas i am really worried, please help

Can you see any injured areas, is there anywhere in the enclosure where it could cut itself etc?

no it can not hurt itself the scales them selves have no on them its like there is blood under them could it be respitory i have no fed him for a while. veyr confused. photos tomorrow

try and get some pics up. it will help alot more. other than that i would recommend a vet.

could be scale rot, i think a visit to your vet would be the go.
good luck.
cheers:)

Not really enough information to make a guess.

What are the teps, humidity, enclosure hygiene, moisture in the substrate, how long is a 'while' since the last feed, any out of the ordinary behaviour etc etc,.

When you say water, do you mean the snake has a water bowl, or that there is a water feature in the cage i.e. pond/waterfall?

It sounds very much like scale rot and you need to seek veterinary assistance first thing in the morning. For the time being, the snake needs to be kept dry and in a spotless (clean) enclosure with high temps - minimum 30 degrees. If you have some Betadine, apply it to the infected area.

there is a water bowl which he goes in now and then the rest of the cage is dry with a 27 degree hot spot and a cold spot. he is just usually curled up in the hot spot moves around alot more in the summer nothing else is wet what will the vet do cheers

The vet will make a diagnosis and treat accordingly, most likely he will administer some antibiotics.

Your hot spot needs to be much higher than 27 degrees, the fact the snake spends most of its time there indicates that it is not getting enough heat. Cold temps are the likely cause of the scale rot in this case. Try and fix the heat now, aim for a hot spot of 35 degrees. Whilst he is sick, it would be a good idea to keep the cool end warm also, around 30 degrees.

Sorry for hi-jacking, but my bredli's hot spot is 33 and hot end hide 35c.. She spends most of the day in there but normally only comes out during the night and during the morning.. Does that mean my hot spot is to cool? cause I don't want to cause her any damage..

Not at all, in your case it just means the snake has somewhere both warm and secure to hide - she's got the best of both worlds. :D

thanks guys just got back to vet. it is scale rott due to temps to low. baught a another heat cord aswell as a heat mat cleaned cage will upload photo's later. the vet said he thinks he will be fine so a bit more relaxed but he wants is overnight. the problem was i kept a diomand in their before i forgot to change temps stupid i know thanks everyone and pray for eric.

I'm glad to hear you got the snake to the vet mate - well done. I hope everything works out ok for you and your snake.
