Just letting everyone know that they can donate to Devil Ark to help save the Tassie Devil from extinction as a result of Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD). The Devil Ark concept is to establish a mainland breeding population of disease free Tassie Devils. This is being done with the idea to re-introduce them once DFTD has either stopped or died out with the Tassie Devils in Tasmania

At present they need donations so that they can build 6.5km of fences to keep them in. To donate go to Tasmanian devil, devil breeding program | Devil Ark | save the Tasmanian devil, tassie devil

They are a amazing creature and it would be so sad to see them disappear in the wild for ever. If you can please donate.

Cheers Daniel

I am not connected with this charity just thought I would let people know about it.

John Weigle, (who owns the Reptile Park at Somersby) came and gave a talk to the Newcastle Herp group SOFAR last month.
Of the 8 breeding females all have jsut had babies, so he now has 48 Devisl and 16 babies.

The plan is to build the population up to around a thousand over the next few years.

makes me happy to say i get to see them in the wild every now and then. not as much as before though :(

I have seen them in wild a couple of times when I was on holidays in Tassie.

Has this virus arizen from natural sources?
Not sure but I think DDT has been a possible factor. Forestries use it alot
