I was out hunting at a local swamp and came across a long neck and it looks in horrible condition.

Some of it's scutes have lifted and there is like a white stuff showing underneath, does anyone know what could be causeing this? Also its skin has gone really hard and wrinkly and there seems to be the same white stuff coming through, the poor thing is really stiff and i don't know what to do with it. Even its poor eyes are sunken in. Does anyone know what could be causing these problems? What should i do?

take it to a wild life rescue center? or even take it back to where you found it , and let nature take its course.

Place it in some clean shallow water if you can't get to a vet/carer straight away. Was it found away from the water? If it was dehydrated, the shallow water will help. Could it have just come out of hibernation(turtle experts?)

the shell issues , sounds like shell rot . and the dry skin could mean its been cooked in the sun ?
it could be a number of things .. take some pics and post them .

Nature has really dealt this one a blow.

I think you could be onto something with the dehydration Kim.

Here's pics

Sunken shrivelled eyes

Hi Gordon,

I suggest putting it into a cardboard box with a towel, a bowl of food (I heard they like sponge cake) and a teddy bear. Treatment should be 15 minutes of handling and chin scratches every two hours, and you should also take it down to the local shop inside your shirt and have little conversations with it while doing your shopping.

Well, at least that's what most wildlife carers do...so it should work!

put it in a nice hot bath of water(preferably in a pot) heat the water gently(use the stove) & add some carrots celery onion & garlic....... after a few hours pull the turtle out & see if it looks better if not drink the soup & then take another look

not sick just foolish

C'mon Zoojas! I'm worth the effort, after all i went to the effort of trying to make you laugh! Makes me sad that you don't want to help this poor creature. :( << see there's the turtles sad face. Lol.

I found it in a swamp already dead, looks like it was killed out of exposure. I was really surpirized to see that no scavengers had cleaned it up.

Ha ha ha thats funny Dont give up on it its still in with a chance its still has a pulse Immediately commence Cpr and ring the ambos.

How cute with its little bony neck and mummified head awww
