My Darwin Carpet python has just shed, and his skin has come up with these wierd cut/grazes, and his scales seem dehydrated and shrunken, and they dont have the iridescence they usually do. His shed took a long time and he kinda stopped half way for about a week. I took him to the vet, they had no clue (useless ppl they got there) so i took him to my friendly neighborhood herpetologist, he said to treat it with an antiseptic cream, so i use savlon every two days. Just wanting to know what u guys think and if anybody has experienced this before? (btw his enclosure is fine, heat and humidity is all at the right levels) But yeah.. this has got me beat. any help would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!!

What you are describing sounds like what happens when a shed comes off too soon. The new layer will scar, looking kind of shrivelled and wrinkly on each scale.

If the snake was coming up to shed and rubbed itself too hard on something and lifted the old skin, that could explain your bad shed and the scarring.

But don't worry, as long as it isn't too bad it will clear up after the next coplete shed. If that is what has happened of course.

Hope these r good enough, they r the best i gotDSCF0089.jpgDSCF0078.jpgDSCF0061.jpgDSCF0059.jpg

u cant really see much on these photos, but he has small grazes/cuts up his sides and the scales are shrivelled and dry/rough.

Thanks, i think it might be that, his shed was a little different than usual, thank you!!!!
Still if anybody has had anything like this, if u could tell me what u did to make it better i would love u for it :) thanks guys!!

IF its what I can see from the pics, it "could" be a case of mild scale rot, ie discoloration under the scale. IS that what your showing? Its hard to tell with the "normal" colour of your snake.
Monitor how it goes and keep putting antibacterial cream on it and make sure it gets right under the scales. Heat is important, if it gets black and like a scab, you need to bath the animal and pull it off yourself.
See how it goes before we get ahead of ourselves here..some clear pics would be good also. :)

It's a big if mate, that might not be what happened.

Yea, his last shed was complte, but he stopped halfway for about a week. then shed the rest. a few days later all this started coming up and he started to get scratches/grazes all over the parts that look like that^^. its got me beat. im keeping up the anteseptic cream and it seems to be healing so, heres hoping:shock:

He's gone into shed now, and the affected skin doesnt seem to bother him :/ but maybe thats cuz hes a big puppy dog :) but it seems to be healing a bit. thanks for all your help guys :)

YAY!!! his shed came around today, found a complete shed, tore it a bit when i got it out of his cage, and his scales are healed :D he just has a little scar tissue on the worst areas, but other than that, hes perfect :D im so happy he's ok and he looks awesome! Thank you all your help!! here are some pics :DDSCF0212.jpgDSCF0216.jpgDSCF0218.jpgDSCF0219.jpg

Thank Christ... my darwin has the same thing but not as much as yours... it's only on a couple of scales here and there... at first i was concerned about it, but i noticed after each shed, complete and incomplete, those scales remained the same, and it didnt seem to be spreading. Im waiting for his next shed to see what the go is, hopefully its complete so i can rule out premature shedding to be the cause, after that and if its still there, im going to take him to a reptile specialist, just to find out what the cause is, my temps and humidity are perfect too, he's active, and eating regularly again after winter... but like you, i can't find any information on this at all, and from what ive seen on the net, it doesnt look all that similar to scale rot... but like Southside Morelia stated, with the darwin colours it is hard to compare to other examples of scale rot because what discolouration would normally appear on other species, darwins produce naturally... -.- let me know if you figure out what it is... i've been researching relentlessly for the past couple of months to figure it out... but to no avail.
