Hi everyone,

just noticed that my spotted python has just had a bad shed, with what looks like the shed flaking off in small pieces all over the cage instead of the usual one piece. I am certain that it was caused by a low/no humidity issue in the enclosure, as I just noticed that the water bowl was actually empty (gah!).

from what I could see, the shed seems to have come off fine over the eyes and face, however it looks like there might be some shed left on his tail, which I am yet to fully confirm.

my question though, is if I refill the water up, increasing the humidity in the enclosure, will he get the rest of the shed off himself if there is any there? or am I going to have to help him with it?

Thanks

Kieran

Personally, I'd soak him for about half hour (depending how bad it is) in water and help him get it off. If they have bad sheds and you dont get all of the shed off, sometimes, they can lose tail tips and stuff like that.

If you want to try to reduce the chances of it shedding badly, when you notice it coming up to a shed (or notice its eyes going cloudy/milky), just spray it over with water every couple days til it sheds, that sometimes helps.
