hi so i brought a phone the huawei u8300 from ebay unlocked

i went into the settings it comes up with like telstra vodaphone and optus but i click on telstra it comes up sim canot work on this or something like that

plz help -.- this makes internet shopping enjoyable grrr first internet purchase = fail grrr

I found some specs for your phone and it wont work on the Telstra nextG network.
Network Operating Frequency
2G (GSM): 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G (WCDMA/UMTS): 900/2100 MHz GPRS/EDGE Class 10

what you should have looked for is

Network Operating Frequency
2G (GSM): 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G (WCDMA/UMTS): 850/2100 MHz

Telstra is the only carrier to use this network, it is NOT the same as the gsm 850

Yeah they work on their own frequency. It's how they get the extra coverage. Unlucky dude. Maybe you can sell it to a friend or something

i dont have the next g sim though only gsm ? does that matter?

Yeah the whole Telstra network actually works at a different frequency. A friend who works at a phone shop was telling me about. They have to modify just about all phones before they can be used with them

telstra dont do GSM any more, they only do Next G.

like a lot of online phone sellers they figure most people are clueless to the network bands. and will hold you to a 'you opened it, i cant resell it' deal.

email them, you may be lucky they may refund you, but be prepared for 'you should have checked' from the seller, there are others on there that plainly state 'Not next G compatible'

I did check your link and it doesn't state that it will work with Next G, you have assumed it will. (but i did see one that does state 'telstra' when it wont ! )

definately a case of buyer beware unfortunately

GRRRR ahggg refund time -.-

i rang the seller she told me it may be faulty card to ring telstra cause card may need rebooting or something and her technition will ring me back. the guy from telstra said the phone is either locked to another network or is faulty

so now i will have to call the seller and ask for a refund she said beforehand that if telstra cant fix it then she will refund me
so wont be telling her bout all the gsm stuff lol thankyou for your help

OMG are you serious ??? if thats what she told you then get your refund quick smart and run as fast as you can in the other direction.
sim cards dont get rebooted ! call her back and tell her that telstra said the phone wont work on the NextG network 3G (WCDMA/UMTS): 850/2100 MHz then find a phone that will.

If your sim works in other phones then its not a faulty sim, if in doubt, take the sim and phone (and box) to a Telstra shop, tell them you've been told you need to get a new sim because yours is too old (it wont make any difference, it still wont work but at least you then have a new sim.- the gold contacts wear if you switch phones often) and ask if they can get it to work.

Please dont ask them to reboot the sim, you'll get laughed at.

I have no doubts that the phone wont work on Next G but that doesnt mean its locked to another network, The phone is no doubt unlocked, its just not compatible with nextG its a bit like trying to play a MP3 CD in a non MP3 CD player, the CD will fit into the player but its not going to do anything....

let us know what happens.

and while i think of it, dont get confused by the 4G that telstra now offer. That is restricted to wireless broadband modems at this point in time.

LOL, dont be detered, she has offered you a refund, so go for it, you may lose a little postage. put it down to bad luck, you're not the first and I doubt you'll be the last to not know the difference as far as 'tech specs' go (and not just specifically phones) for most people they dont even realise it makes a difference. Thats why people like me do what we do.. we speak geek ROFL.

Just remember UMTS 850 for nextG. Optus/voda3 run UMTS 2100.... most of the others run off the back of Optus / voda3
