iv just noticed my heat globe fitting is really hot like you cant not touch it burns the globe is obvisously goin to be hot but is that normal both my fittings for my globes (uvb and heat) are both 150w max but have 75w in one fitting and the 10.0 uvb 26w in other could this be the reason why the other is really hot???

yes i have a thermo in there but it says round 95 and its the fitting of the heat bulbs one that is really really hot like you cant touch the fitting i swear its goin to melt or something but i dunno could just be normal should i maybe be getting another fitting or do you think its just goin to do the same thing?

You need to use full stops. It's quite difficult to understand your comments. Are you saying you think the globe is going to melt? It won't. Most fittings get extremely hot because the metal fitting of the globe is in direct contact with it. Plastic fittings may degrade over time but they won't melt. If you want to be sure though you can change them for ceramic then you can be certain they won't be damaged over time.

Yes - write clearly with punctuation so we know what you are talking about, and get a ceramic socket for your heating appliance. It is essential that you use a ceramic fitting with your radiant heat source - the plastic will be come brittle and disintegrate with constant exposre to high heat.

Plastic fittings are usually only rated to 60 watts, some may get to 75 watts, anything higher than 60 watts should only be used with a ceramic fitting or else, as Jamie said, the plastic will fail eventually.

You need a thermostat leahellem. As well as thermometers. A thermometer in the centre of your enclosure is not good enough.

Leahellem, is your fitting ceramic or plastic? I assume plastic because ceramic doesn't melt lol :)
It is extremely dangerous to have a plastic fitting without a thermostat. You shouldnt have a plastic fitting at all, it should be ceramic. But if you do have plastic you absolutely need to have a thermostat that is monitoring/controlling the temperature directly under the light/emitter (i.e. the basking spot).

I know they seem expensive but you absolutely can not scrimp on these things. It can end in fried beardies or even fire depending on how you have it all set up.

Not trying to criticise, just trying to convey the significance of these things :)

A 75watt globe should never get hot enough that you are unable to touch the lamp holder. Assuming that the lampholder is a screw in type (es27), my suggestion is that when you have replaced the globe you have over tightened it causing the wires inside to twist and weaken. Replace the lampholder with a ceramic holder , check that the wire at the terminals are in good order. Remember heat is energy and energy is $$$$.

I would disagree with this. A 75W globe on for any length of time would get plenty hot enough to be untouchable. It's not about how tight it has been screwed it is simply heat transfer

yup even a 50w globe would get plenty hot , as with ANY heat source it needs to be caged to stop animals from being burnt .

Read the resonse properly. i'm not saying the globe won't burn you..... a 10watt globe will be hot enough to burn you. I'm saying if the holder is getting too hot to touch with a 75 watt globe in it, then you have a problem.

I did read it properly and I still say you are incorrect. The light gets hot and the heat transfers through the globe body to the fixture.

I agree with Sax on this one, i know for a fact that after having my 75W basking globe on for the beardie all day the lamp holder burns the crap outta my hand when im stupid enough to pick it up!
