Hi all I recently brought A UVB lamp from herpshop (4-8 weeks) and it blew today. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. As I am considering taking my business elsewhere as $60 every 4-8 weeks when not in breeding season is alot of $$ to splash out. Thanks

G'day mate sometimes you get a dud lamp as they are all made in china. But i have known and delt with Brian Barnet for over 20 years and he is always willing to replace products that don't perform. Simply email him and let him know,he is a very fair man. Good luck.

Yeh I sent him an email as soon as I realized. Thanks

He said, He will halve my next purchase which I am happy with.

My personal experience with globes is they can be hit and miss. No fault entirely to the manufacturer at times. What I do is if the globe blows within the first couple of days I would contact the seller,if it was 4-8 weeks then I would not contact the seller as I feel this is a reasonable time undergone, so would take the loss. This is just my opinion,I wouldn't be too happy though as MVB's are a lot of money.
There can be other factors also like your wiring and you need to make sure MVB's are not on thermostats as this will make them blow.

Sorry just realized you were talking about UVB lamps..I have never had one of them blow you would think they should be pretty hardy wouldn't you?

Nothing worse than a MVB blowing (I cry every time).

Mercury bulbs should last a average of 4-8 months and not blow did you get the slightest drop of water on it by any chance?

nah mate. No water just randomly popped while i was working

All bulbs are come & go whatever source. You can turn them on once & then blow, & turn the other ones on & off 1000 times & all is good. There is no guarantee.
If that is the source you wish to provide then just keep buying bulbs???
Or find another heat source??
Cheers
Ian

If you don't want to be spending so much on bulbs then buy an alternative, as an example a 100w spot light bulb to heat accies versus the expensive brand. Cheap ones from the shop will do just as good as herp ones as they don't need uv.
& before you say i have lizards & they do need uv, try some suppliments with thier food.

I can't use another heat source other then the sun. As they are dragons. And I have read they need an active basking source

These bulbs are a must for frillys and any other way is stupid IMO they require a great deal of uv and these globes provide that and heat its like buying 2 globes in one

Yeah globes are hit and miss for sure i go through about 4 mirrabella halogen s from coles before i get one that lasts , at least the herp shop are good and will replace them i think that is the key , just buy them from a reputable person.

I use and have always used the Megaray Mercury Vapour Bulb 100w. Reputably give off the best form of UVA and UVB. Over the past 6 years I have only had one blow and that was my most recent occasion. Got it from Amazing Amazon and when I took it back they were only too pleased to exchange it.

Great for beardies, central netted's and the like.

Herp shop ones are the bees knees IMO. Bryan will look after you like it seems he is. unfortunately they are touchy oil of your Hands the tiniest bit of water or mistreatment will result in a bad outcome.

Cheers Brenton
