I have been contacted about long necks fleeing a development site in Hezlet Rd Kellyville. They are getting on to the road through a gap in the fence and squashed on the rd.
Someone is going to ask the council to do some mitigation using hay bales to block the exit and a couple of trenches either side to catch the turtles in for relocation. Whether they will or not we dont know.
If you live around that way you could help by ring the council and asking then=m to do something or head on down ansd check out the situation. There are plenty of other dams around to put them in now but the whole place is up for developement.

That's so sad. I love turtles. Too much development, not enough care.

i used to live just off hezlet road,i can get down there and rescue some turtles

that is such incompetence by the council....surely if there is wildlife the developer is responsible for relocation and safety ??????????????? Isnt that what we have councils for....to make sure that developers cant do things like this ??????? isnt there a local wildlife rescue organisation you can phone who can put some pressure on the council.....this is all so wrong

Because wildlife groups work on a volunteer basis its hard to cover this at all times. The main thing that interested people can do is contact the council and if they are in the area feel free to help a turtle. The local council does not have a good wildlife friendly reputation.
