Fishboy (a member on this site) and myself decided to go herping this morning after a good night of rain, we walked around for 2 hours and all we saw was skinks. I decided to give up and walked off towards a seat (leaf litter everywhere damp and humid), i took 3 steps and then this snake burst out of the leaf litter. We were 100% sure it was a keelback (another one lol) so i pulled out my snake hook and tryed to hook it. i hooked it and the snake slithered off the hook lol 2 times thes happened then it was gone. I have now discovered that snakes are pretty hard to hook, does any one have any tips on hooking snakes. (I am not going to go out and play with vens B4 any one says something about that). Thanks

Very simply put

It was a WILD SNAKE so LEAVE IT ALONE

The only reason to annoy or mishandle wild reptiles is to move them out of danger

If you have no idea how to use hooks practice on your own snakes never on wild ones

Go out on herping trips cand have a blast doing it
But take a camera instead of a hook

One thing to remember is that we do NOT teach people under 18 as to interact with wild snakes in most states and territories you need to be over 18 years. I have received your pm and will get to it very soon. Personally though if you dont need to touch it, dont. I dont care if you are 14 or 44, you always increase your risk of bite dramatically once you start to interact with wildlife!
