hi,
whats the best combination of australian pythons to create leucistic or albino pythons?
thanks :)

2 albino Darwins will create albino Darwins..... funny, but true.

That's a big call Jason, have you studied genetics at university to be able to make such a claim? I think we should leave this one to Sdaji.

two albinos mated together

you're clutching at straws there Wranga and JasonL.....too much time on aps wth answers like that.

taluh are you trying to ask how the very first albino was created? Someone will correct me if I am wrong but albanism is a genetic mutation which we have continued to breed, to enhance the "defective" gene. We see it as beauty, but in the wild it would be a defect. Not being a strong defect albino is a recessive gene which means you need at least one albino and a carrier to produce albino. I actually not sure if 2 normals that both carry albino, can produce albino.

I don't know that you can create an albino from two normal snakes that don't have a known albino background, but perhaps if incubation setup, in-breeding, incompatible pairing, anything like that may cause it. But the chances of it happening are bucklies and virtually none.

You inject the eggs with bleach to make albinos. I can't remember how you make leucistics, it might have been bleach as well as hydrochloric acid, or maybe just the acid, or maybe peroxide... I can't recall. I think Nephrurus/Henry was our expert on this topic, but I haven't seen him around APS for a while.

I have to get around to injecting the belly of a gravid female from a live-bearing species to see if it works on them too. I'll have my own line of live bearing albino snakes before you know it!

Assuming that you don't have albinos to start with just breed lots and lots of your target species. Sooner or later an albino "sport" will appear. Assuming it survives, keep all its siblings and breed it back to its parents and/or siblings. If you don't get albinos in the next generation ( and you almost certainly won't ) you will have heterozygous (het) animals. Breed the hets back together and 25% of their offspring should be albino.

Simple huh? You should be able produce the initial albino within 400,000 births( plus or minus 399,999).

I think if the incubation is dodgee (temp wise) It can cause mutations including albinism? I think this was how the first Albino mac was bred? I think the originally albino mac had a crooked spin which corrected itself with age?

thanks for that Sdaji. now i know how to get albinos and ill have the same line as you very soon

No problem. If you don't get it to work you can buy some of my albinos next season. How do you know it will be the same line as mine? I didn't say what species I was going to use.

hope there isnt more than one species as that will confuse me

Well, there's an idea! Inject every species you can get hold of and I'm sure you'll get the one I was thinking of!

Okay, I'm going to stop being silly and jump out of this thread now.
