You'll know. Jaw will be miss shaped and not able to close properly. It will look 'curvy', red and inflamed and the inside of the mouth will be full of gunk and puss. In VERY SERIOUS case some snakes even lose the function of half the side of their face.....eye won't be able to see and get inflamed. There are many books on this topic and pictures on the web if you want to see more...

One thing you shouldn't do is become paranoid about mouthrot to the point that you are always prying it's mouth open to make sure it doesn't have it.

Just sayin'

I know someone who has had snakes die from mr.

It would have had to be a serious case of mouthrot to kill the snake.

Anyway, I've seen pythons with mouthrot where the gums were completely replaced by the cheesy crap, all the teeth were gone, the boney palate and jaws were crumbling away as betadine was being applied to them with a cotton tip, and the whole head was swollen.

A bad case of mouthrot is a very BIG deal. I shake my head at how some keepers go straight into a panic at finding a few mites on their snake. There are worse things that affect our captive herps, and as far as I'm concerned, a mite infestation pales in comparison to a bad case of mouthrot.

Mouth rot, canker...necrotic stomatitis....isn't that hard to treat. To kill a snake with it means pretty bad neglect. It would have such a puffy lip there is no way you couldn't notice it.

Got in before me Nick. Very serious for sure, I hate hearing things like that.
Isn't it great when the lump of cheese comes out and theres just a bleeding hole where there should be a few teeth... i've used peroxide on it, along with antibiotic injections, as well as diluted iodine. Its a daily treatment with needles every second, always fun with a solid 8 ft carpet. They tend to hate you after a week.

It was an old spotted who just recovered from a RI and the guy was on holidays and came back to his guy who had mouth rot, it was weak and lived a long life.

Is she on antibiotics?
Yep, it can be a two or three person job to treat the infection in the mouth by wash. There are some people who think that getting the gunk out daily may not help one way or the other, I tend to think that it is good to clean it out back to living flesh to allow it to "breathe". Though at times it can be difficult to dislodge. Antibiotics are necessary. And keep her at 30 deg.
