I have a shocking memory at times and so need to remind myself of things quite often.
For something the same day I usually set an alarm on my phone. If it's for something within a few days I send myself an email and leave it unread (having unread/extra emails in my inbox sets off my OCD so having something there annoying me works well).
However the problem is for things that are,for example, a couple of weeks away. I can't leave emails unread for that long because a) I'd go crazy; and b) anyone who uses Hotmail would know that when you delete an email it opens the next one on the list meaning it is no longer unread. I also can't set reminders in my phone calendar because it seems to sometimes work and sometimes not (either due to my incompetence or Apple's).
So I'd like to hear what other people use that works for you.

I assume you have an iPhone so I'd set yourself up a Gmail account (Gmail supports active sync) and sync Calender appointments between Gmail and your phone, if you want to go all out and have desktop intergration thunderbird has some plug-ins that will allow you to sync your Calender with you Gmail & phone Calender once you've installed lightning.

There's other options but that's free and should work well for you.

I have an app on my phone that sticks sticky notes to the wallpaper of my phone... Otherwise I just set alarms on the calendar which works well on my phone...
I also have a calendar on my phone.
Without reminders I'd forget things like my sons swimming lessons which are weekly, yet the type of thing I'd forget.

You know what I find works really well

and you are all going to laugh at me.....a good old fashioned paper diary.......A4 size with the whole week across the open page if you get what I mean. I worked in two different workplaces for 12 months....(nearly killed me) and it was the only way I could keep track of my life.

 Im so happy you also share my ocd when it comes to emails......i am terrible, i have to read & keep/delete everything on a daily basis, sometimes more then once, or i too, would go crazy!

As for how i remind myself things.....which is everything as my mind is like a sieve.....i write myself notes on those sticky pads stuck to my fridge, that way when i have finished with my list, it goes straight in the bin.

I use reminders on my iPhone.. but as you say, a lot of time they also get forgotten about.

Other than that, I use the old pen on the hand ;)

My husband's got a terrible memory. He uses an @home application called SmartWife Dayplanner v. 1.0, downloaded from New Zealand. It's a bit glitchy though, and tends to forget its own basic processes when overloaded ;)
I use a dayplanner. It lives in my bag and I write EVERYTHING in it, from phonecalls to appointments to shopping lists.

P.S. By 'live' I mean it's alive. I swear it. The thing lives on pen ink and my sanity. It sucks out my soul; if I don't have it I'm completely lost lol

i just enter items into my calendar and set it with an alarm/reminder this way my outlook at work pops up with the reminder and my iphone that's synced to my work account also pops up with the reminder

Just in case you forget what your supposed to remember just punch it into the calender on the mobile phone

I don't know anything about iPhones or fancy stuff like that. I put things on my calendar and then there's a chance I'll forget so just before an important appointment, maybe a day or so before, I write a bigger message and put it on the fridge. To rememebr names and things I think of other words that associate with the name I want to remember. My son recently got a new kitten, it's name is Shelby, so I think of the ocean and shells....thus reminding me of Shelby. Trouble is he has another kitten and I had a similar way of remembering it's name...but I forget what the reminder is....true!! The other day I forgot the name of the suburb I live in....that was really weird....so I had to look on a letter that had been sent to us to find out !!

my memory is shocking at times , i just go with the flow . i figure theres always tomorrow to forget what i had to do today - i dont work so sometimes i even forget what day it is :)

I always start my school year using my teacher diary religiously... That usually lasts around 14 minutes... Then... As the weeks progress the entries become less and less...

Well... I think I shall, this year, use my awesome diary as much as I can.... That's my resolution.

I already have my course timetable for next week (I have a special course to go and I get to see some electron microscopy too)... So I am starting... Now all I have to do is continue it!

I OFTEN forget what day it is.....I say to Brian (hubby) gee it feels like Monday today, not Sunday (or something similar) and he says....well if you wait long enough, it will be Monday !!

I have a wife. Not sure if it is completely accurate as I believe I also have selective hearing. ;)

Well there's your problem; iHear(select) is sold as a complete package with SmartWife, but unfortunately it clashes terribly. You're either going to have to remove iHear(select) completely by enabling TotalListen and rebooting @home or remove SmartWife by enabling TrashySkank, with which iHear(select) works perfectly. I wouldn't recommend the last method though; TrashySkank is effective, but lacks quality and consistancy and in the end usually ends up crashing @home. It's also incredibly susceptable to viruses ;)
Good luck ;)

I have WAY too much time on my hands today. I think I'll go make a lasagne...

I found a wall calender works well. Everything goes in there! For appointments I set a reminder on my iphone an hour before the appointment is due. (and YES usually the alarm goes off and I go ****!.... and run to the car!

Haha that another thing I'm concerned about with setting phone reminders. I'd need to set one for like three days before, then a day before, then a few hours before, then half an hour before.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone

Thats why I have a wall calendar - hangs in the kitchen and I look at it every morning while making my coffee (in your case it can be every arvo when you go to the fridge to get a beer lol)

my meds have severely impacted on my memory so i write lists and use post-its. it annoys the crap out of my mum and sister but having post-its stuck to everything with reminders or 'to-do' lists makes functioning in the real world a bit easier.
